Titling

The atv forum seems a bit dead currently, so I figure I try my luck here.

I bought an atv in Virginia and received a title for it. They signed over the title to me but I haven’t taken it to the dmv down here because I wasn’t sure if I needed to. I didn’t think an atv needed to be registered in North Carolina so what’s my next step? And if I have to bring the title in to be put in my name, does a one time tax apply or will it be a once a year personal property situation?

Sorry for the new guy questions, but a google search wasn’t doing me much good as this is a tricky subject to search on I guess.

You are not tagging it, just changing ownership. I would get the title switched over to you. If you ever want to sell it or it gets stolen you need to be the owner of it. Taxes wont be that much.

I don't think NC even has four wheeler titles. I've bought 2 or 3 brand new and never had titles.

Yeah they don’t, hence my confusion on what to do next with the title I have from VA

Stick it in a drawer or filing cabinet. You literally can't so anything with it. I damn sure not going to pay property taxes on a four wheeler either....

No title in NC, just an MSO. Don't worry about it. I bought a new atv in TN in 2005, got a title, and confused, I took it to the tag office. Confused as well, they tried to charge me road use tax. It was a mess, took forever to get straightened out.
