Ok all, I am looking for some guidance and options here...

I am currently running a 2000 TJ with a 1 inch body lift and 31" MT tires.

What should my next step be in terms of lift and tires. This is not my daily driver but I don' have a tow truck or trailer yet.

If I do a 2.5" lift which one? Should I skip that and to to a 3.5" or 4" lift?

What other things should I do along with my lift (axles, gears, SYE, etc.)

All opinions welcome.

Thanks

What size tires are you wanting to run, how hard of trails, etc. Need more info.

It all depends on what size tire you are trying to run and what equipment came stock on your wrangler. Does it have the Dana 44 rear?

Give me a shout at the shop and we cna talk about some of your options.

if you just wanna save some money and fit 33s and only plan on wheelin URE or somewhat easy terrain, add a 2 inch BB or coils and with the 1 inch you should clear them just fine. But go ahead and wheel it with just the 31s for a while...

Wheel it for a while...it will start to tell you what it needs and wants. 31's will get you around most of URE. The areas where 31's wont do...it'll tell you what's next.

Thanks all for your ideas. I am going to run it this year with the 1inch lift and 31s. I think 33s is all I will want to run but that is a next year project. The 33s should get me around most of the places I wheel around here (URE mostly so far)

If your planning on 33's, I would save up and get the Rubicon Express 4.5" long arm kit and a slip yoke eliminator. Something inexpensive you can do right now is get some teraflex quick disconnects, get the one's for the lift, you can use it now, just raises your sway bar. Then you won't have to switch them when you lift higher. The QDC's that come with the RE lifts are the only part I don't like.

I was out at URE last weekend and the 31s worked very well. I think before I lift and get bigger tires I need to get lockers. So with that said my ulitmate goal (ok at least for the next two years) is 4.5 inch lift and 33 inch tires. So how should I go about adding lockers???

Option 1: Just put on lockers, if so what kind? I have a Dana 30 in the front and Dana 44 in the rear with 3.73 Axle Ratio (I have the DSAP Option - The Anit-Spin Differential, is that considered a locker???)

Option 2: Beef up the Axles/ Gears and put lockers on that.

I am leaning toward option 2 as I believe I will have to regear in order to run with 33s.

Am I on the right track? What are your locker suggestions???

Thanks

Yes, you have the Limited Slip in the rear. It is not a locker, but it does help a bit. I would put a Powertrax in the rear for now and see how you like it. It is the only basic locker that will work with the LSD carrier. Give me a shout if I can help you out.

As for beefing the axles.....I will have AlloyUSA chromoly axle shafts available very soon. I will have a kit for the 44 if you are interested. They could be installed at no charge if you decide to do the locker with us.

Let me know if I can help
Thanks

Do you have a manual or auto? That could make a difference in whether you want/need to regear with 33's.

If you change gears, I'd look into a full Detroit in the rear. The install would basically be "free" if you did it at the same time as you swapped gears. The Detroit Softlocker would be stronger and better behaved on the street.

You can stick with a lunchbox locker in the front.

Or, just suck it up like I did and do front/rear ARB and gears at the same time. :D

...and as soon as Andy's order arrives, it'll have Alloy USA chromolly shafts front/rear... ;)

I got around UNF last weekend on 30 inch MTRs on my willys with no problems. Now my tj has 31s with rubi springs and 1.75 pucks. The rubi springs are a little taller with a stronger rate so I wound up with enough lift to cause rear vibs.I guess I picked up allmost 3 inches of lift.I lowered my transfercase 1 inch and knocked out the vibs.Last year when I wheeld it,it worked real well.Deffinately need to disco the sway bars.31s are deffinately a good compromise between street and trail + cost.Go to ebay to pick up your low miladge rubi springs and shocks.I have less than 75 dollars in my lift.
