Anyone have a link to or done this swao that can help me out. I have searched 3 forums and cant seem to find a build with any info.

I have a 2000tj. I would like to swap in 99 or so xj motor and trans.

Any help would be great, Thanks

If I remember correctly, @userbmx1315 did this. Or it may have just been an aw4 swap.

Either way, not worth the trouble to only gain 100 hp.

@shawn we need the "its not really worth it" stickie for this one!!! Lol

I mean, sure it's alot of troubles and headaches but 100 more hp has gotta be worth it.

@shawn surely you enjoy driving your tj 100% better with the 6 banger over the 4.

Unless you have a six cylinder tj of the same model year sitting there, you don't have all the parts you need.

It's the same amount of work to swap in an LS or what have you (minus the stretch involved).
Case in point, you need to swap everything. Motor mounts, engine harness, gauge cluster, all linkage. The motor mounts ha e to be torched off the frame rather than just "swapped"

LS is a lot more work. But 4->6 isn't easy.

Just off the top of my head, you'll need these things that won't be included with the TJ or the XJ donor:

Rear driveshaft
Front driveshaft (might make the XJ or the 4cyl one work)
6cyl Tcase Shifter linkage
Motor side TJ wiring harness
PS hoses
6cyl intake/airbox/etc
6cyl fan shroud
Fuel lines from the rail to the frame
6cyl TJ PCM that matches the donor year (pinouts changed damn-near every year) and the PCM CAN NOT be linked to a smart key, or else you need the smart key, smart key sensor and ignition cylinder from the donor.
You need the 6cyl motor mount horns off the frame of a 6cyl tj. The steering shaft can be cut off and moved to match the 6cyl location.
6cyl downpipe (might could modify the XJ one)

to answer your question we have been using a guy, send him both harnesses and he will make one and eliminate things you do not need
its about $1k, I will see if I can find his info

LS is a buttload more work and $$ but for a 200+ hp gain its worth it. I'd even do a magnum 5.2 swap before I'd mess with a 4.0.
