TJ disk brake conversion

I can get a complete ZJ disk brake set up for under $50 so with the other small parts needed I could do the conversion for under $150.

Does this conversion improve the breaking enough to make it worth it? I am running 35x12.5 tires and braking is a little hairy to say the least. So I need to find a way to improve the braking.

I did the 8.8 swap on my last TJ and the disk brakes on the 8.8 helped out immensely. I have the D44 so no need for the 8.8 this time around.

I'm looking to do the same conversion and if you don't take the brakes... I NEED them, my drums leak like a stuck pig.

Most guys do say it's not a big differance but you do have the conveiniance factor. The ZJ disk are really not that big and therfore don't give a TON of stopping power, but it is better than the drums.

Again if you don't take them, please let me know.

The brakes on the 8.8 and the brakes on the ZJ are essentially the same. If you liked it on your last truck then go for it!

The place where I am getting them from has 3 or 4 ZJ's so they probably have another set. Not trying to be an ass but I am going to wait until I get mine then I'll post where I got them from.

Disc brake coversions on a TJ are extremly simple GUBNI. You just pull the axle shafts out. Unbolt the backing plates and unhook the ebrake cables from the bracket under the floor. Do the same on the ZJ discs. Bolt the ZJ disc brakes in place on your TJ. Reattach the ebrake cables and your done.

I doubt it, he sells conversion kits for axles that don't religiously grenade .

It somes times helps to read the entire thread before you comment instead of using your assumptions. If you read my original post I do not have the D35 under my jeep I have a D44.

I would not waste my time or money doing anything to D35!

I just got back from the U-Pullit and got the parts cheaper then I planed. I got Rotors, calipers, backplate/ dust shield, hoses and E-brake cables for $40 plus tax.

Now all I need is new main pads, E-brake pads and the new bolt plates. It looks like this conversion is only going to cost me around a $100.00.
