What are some fairly easy and cheap engine upgrades u can do on a TJ with the 4.0? I'm probably going to be pulling my motor, and figured while i had it out, i would do some upgrades.

Simple stroker. But whats your budget? If the engine is in good shape and you don't need machine work, you can do a simple stroker (4.2 crank and 4.2 rods, new pistons and rings) for under a grand.

well i don't want to put too much inton it yet, i have other projects that need to be done on it. But thought since i had motor out, i would do a few things to it.

Besides a stroker kit, the only thing that I can think of is to port polish the head and gasket match the top end. But by that point, you may be just as well off to get a stroker kit.

First we need to make sure your block/head isn't cracked and that the leak you have is in fact a freeze plug. I'd hate for you to buy a stroker kit then find out you need a new block/head.

Not really an upgrade but while I had it out I would: Replace RMS (if leaking), oil pump and screen(depending on mileage), oil pan gasket, any other gasket/seals that are suspect. Much easier to do a thorough job with these things while the engines on a stand.

could always put a small cam in it. throttle body spacer and cold air intake. bore the throttle body. new header.
other then that, theres really nothing to do then stroke it.
