i own a 97 wrangler TJ that HAD the 2.5 motor in it. But last week i finished my 4.0 swap out of a 02 wrangler TJ... and now i need a heater box so i could have HEAT in the car which would be very helpful this time of the year. The 97 heaterbox i have in there now will not work with the new heater controls because its all electronic but the 97 model uses pull cables, and i have thought through every possible option to make it work but NO luck. Now the question is that does a cherokee xj share the same heaterbox as a wrangler TJ? if it does then i could go to a local pull apart LKQ salvage yard and get one for $50. And if NOT then maybe somebody on the board has one, (it can be A/C or not ) i need it to fit a 02 model, not sure the years that fit i think its 02-06 but not sure. thanks alot.

anyone? kinda cold driving it around at nights :( would really like to get heat in the jeep. hard to shift gears with frost bite on the fingers.

okay.....why won't the original work? You change out the dash too?I'm kind of at a loss as to why the original won't work.
Also there are bugs in the later controls.I've had to change out the fan switch and the heater control switch on mine so maybe the cable controls would be better.

I don't understand what a motor swap has to do with the heater other than the heater coil.

yep the newer controls suck

the heater box wont work because in 97 they used push pull cables to move the blend doors and what not, but i have the WHOLE 2002 model jeep entirely swapped over into my 97 jeep. Including, compleate wire harnesses under the dash, ecu, airbags, DASH, steering column, every single electric component in the jeep. AND the 2002 jeep that i got everything from was in a front end/passenger corner collision and the heater box inside the cab is in 10,000 peaces,( i have already tried to glue it/ jb weld it/ etc...) i have also tried to make the 97 heater box work manually as of putting a toggle switch with a relay in there to activate power straight to the blower motor and have it always on MAX heat, but i want it to be factory working condition with no headaches. So my easiest thing to do is completly find a new 2002 model whole heater box (the whole black box under the dash) and stick it in there because the wiring harness is already in there and just dangling around. so i was trying to find out if i can use the heater box out of a newer model cherokee XJ, IF they are the same part number? dealer doesnt know what im talking about and is not too friendly about it/doesnt have time for it. and i have searched for hours on google and called around with no luck.

it wasnt just a motor swap, it was a COMPLEATE swap over including every single peace of the jeep that came in 2002 is now swapped onto my 97 frame and cab. NOTHING has been left 97 besides the cab and frame, not even the brake lines and gas tank along with axles, interior, doors, top, seats, wiring, lights etc... and the harness in 2002 is not compatible with the 97 heater box. and the 2002 heater box that came with the wrecked donor jeep is compleatly busted to smitheriines.
