On the TJ's with the body color painted fiberglass fender flares, if you remove them is the paint under them usually good? Thats not a good way to ask. If I remove them, and install regular black plastic flares are there any mounting hardware or issues from the painted flares that are different than the usual black ones?

I have another question. I'm looking at an LJ for my wife. It's sitting stock height. Considering putting a 4" lift kit and some 33" tires. With the length of the LJ will it be
in proper proportion? I'm not wanting to go 6" and long arm just to go to 35"s. I think the standard TJ looks fine at 4" lift and 33" tires. It will be mall crawler with possible run at URE once or twice a year

A RE 4.5" lift should clear 35's but might rub a little offroad when flexed out without bumps. I ran the RE long arm 5.5" with 37's & 38's on my old TJ and it was about 7-7 1/4" total lift when first installed then settled in at 6.5" and stayed that way for 8+ years that I owned it. I like the look of an LJ on 35's or bigger myself. Can't stand the way they look from the factory.

Why do you think you need 6" and long arms to run 35s? Mine is 3" (2" suspension and 1" body). I used to have 33x10.50 and thought it looked good, until I put 35x12.50 on it.

LJ's really need 35s to look right IMO. But yeah, no need for a lot of lift, 3"-4" will work just fine. You can even get away with 2"

Just because of what you said, yours looked good with 3" of lift and 33's but not 35's. I don't want to go to 35's with stock 3:73's either. And anyhting taller than 4" should have a long arm kit (IMO)

I think you misunderstood my post. I thought it looked good with 33s. Then I put 35s on it and it's 100x better.

Keep in mind that these are BFGs and measure shorter than marked size. I would not have been able to run a true to size 35 set up like it is.

Then yes I did misunderstand, my apologies!

You mentioned gears. Is the one you're looking at auto or manual? 3.73s and 33s sucked pretty bad with the auto. I went to 4.88.

You probably know this, but just to be sure.
The Sahara painted flares are 1" wider than standard black flares.
The Rubicon black flaresults are same width as Sahara painted flares
