TJ Rear Axle Options.....Confusion

i have been TRYIN to break my 8.8 for about 3 yrs now. all i can manage to do is mango axle tubes, not so much as twist the splines on the 8.8.

I wish I could just find a "Ready to Go" D44 or 8.8 for the TJ...still hunting.

Hmmmm....think an open D35 can wheel with 35" tires....once again...an OPEN D35?

The 8.8 is going to sit low clearance wise with 33's. There is a 44 housing on Wilmington CL for $100 right now. I just sold my complete TJ rear 44 with 3.73s for 750. They're out there man. I would stick with dana man. Bolts in with no mods, doesnt have sub parf clearance from oversized pumpkin, and it's the right width.

Thanks...but that axle has had the mounts removed...uggh...I'm still looking.

I'm with you guys....really thanks for the link of Spraypaintman's axle. I'm just thinking the cash outlay for the axle, then the rebuild kit, gearset and replacement spider gears with labor will make that axle a bit more than I'm looking for.

I have unfortunately missed 2 really screaming deals on D44's b/c I was slow...this time..when I see one that's built..I'm gonna jump on it - if it's a complete/done 8.8, or a D44 needing gears only..that's what i'm looking for.

Thanks for your patience.

3 years ago I asked this same question on this forum. I did not listen, and built a D35 with the super 35 kit, 4:56 gears, and electric locker. It did fine with 33's, but when I went up to 35's, kaboom!! Now I have a $1200 paperweight and no Jeep for the summer. Build it right the first time.

Thanks for more input from real world experience.

Where I'm at now is:

1 - run some 33's with the D35 4:10 open that I bought...or
2 - find the 8.8 or D44 with 4:10 and run some 35's...

being at this stage of not having done anything lift/axle yet...I'm on the hunt as I have this feeling I'll want to do option #2 after I get finished installing option #1.
