TJ Rear Sway bar, necessary?

I guess my rear sway bar is causing problems with the 2" lift now

I swear, this thing MUST have been the Devils jeep. I'm surprised it didn't have a huge LUCIFER sticker on the back.

Anyways, I had to take it to mintons, as I lack to the tools to do this work myself, and the time frame before I go back to school is getting very small. David said the rear sway bar is causing some binding problems...

Just wondering if this sway bar is necessary for a Daily Driver or no? The connecting arms on the sway bar to the frame or whatever it is they connect to were PLASTIC, which was a bit weird..

any advice?

The rear sway bar should not be binding with 2" of lift and the rubber links they used on the later models. Mine had steel ones and you might be able to pick up some solid ones from someone who put longer links on the rear bc of a lift.

If you need convincing you need the rear sway bar, disconnect it and drive around a bit, its not scary, but close to it.

I haven't ran a rear sway bar since 2001, and have barely noticed it gone. The rear sway bar is so weak (at least on the 2000 and older models) that it has practically no effect. I corner my jeep very hard for what it is and generally drive very uh, strongly. If you cut the wheel all the way to the left and then floor it, then you may notice its absence as your left front wheel lifts off the ground, but otherwise, its not necessary.

The Trac-bar not the Sway bar. It is binding in a full suspension drop on the rear.
And YES on the street you want the rear sway bar

Hehe, my fault :)

anyways, all looks to be good now, I see no real problems.

New tires are on, hopefully getting aligned tomorrow and not dying on the way there.

When I did the 2" BB on mine I ended up needing an adjustable rear trac bar. Found a used Teraflex adj. bar for fairly cheap and it did the trick.

Didn't know there was even a problem until I went to have it aligned and the guy said he couldn't do it because the rear axle was kicked out an inch or two to one side. Not saying you'll have the same problem, but probably worth considering.
