TJ Squeaky steering column

The TJ has a rubber dust boot at the firewall where the steering column goes though. Mine squeaks. Always has. Every once in a while, I'll reach up under there and smear some wheel bearing grease around on the wear surface, and that quiets it down for a little while. But it always comes back.

Anything permanent out there that I can use? Maybe a different kind of lubricant?

Sounds like a lemon law issue, i would take it back to the lot you got it from!!

Remove the boot... Lil dust and dirt never hurts.

Uh... I think we can all tell who the newb is here. KY? Everybody knows that stuff turns into a sticky mess when exposed to atmosphere.

That stuff stays on store shelves thanks to the greatest marketing campaign known to man.

Mine does it loudest in the cold. Is that what you're referring? Maybe I'll try some graphite to see if that's a cleaner method.

Yeah, it's worse the colder it is. The rubber gets stiff, I guess.

Huh? I have found that all those annoying squeaks get quieter the older you get! Just hold off for a little while on fixing it, it'll get quieter on it's own

We used this at the dealer when there was a need for long term anti squeak fixes. The best (non bedroom) lube I've ever used.

Poly bushing lube holds up but its very sticky
I usually just use dielectric grease and the squeak doesnt come back.

Turn the radio up.

Mine does this too, especially when it's cold. I have tuned it out completely and don't notice much. But other people are always like "what the heck is that" I just say oh nothin and turn the radio up.

If you look on my axle building cart, you will find Vasoline and white grease for undefined reasons...
