Would anybody happen to know the size of the very top two bolts that bolt the trans to the motor on a 2000 Wrangler. I have lost them and not sure where to get some replacements.

Any help would be great.

Thanks,

Matt

The ones on a 2000 TJ with 4.0 and NV3550 are a strange head that looks like a heavy torx. I believe the thread is 10mm, but I'm not 100% certain.

Did a little web searching. They are E12 head bolts with 3/8-16 thread, 1.75" thread length. You can replace them with a regular hex head bolt of the same thread, and thats apparently pretty popular, but I personally like how well the E12 socket holds the bolts as you try to finagle them up in there above the transmission.

My information is from here, but I can verify it with personal experience:

Matt is correct. I think I used a 10mm or 11mm socket to get mine out and went back with hex head bolts. It was late and nobody was open to buy the right socket.

Can anybody confirm the 3/8-16 thread, 1.75" thread length bolt size? They are located in a pretty tough location and I can't seem to get that size bolt started. It could be me not holding my mouth just right but I'm starting to second guess the bolt size.

Yeah, the cross member is off. That does allow for a little more room when the trans tilts back but I fell like Im fighting a loosing battle with these bolts. I wish I would of tried them BEFORE I put in the trasmission. You live you learn.

I replaced mine with socket head cap screws, got them from Lowes. Now I can use an hex socket (Allen) for those instead of the external torx. The external torx strips easier than the Allen. Just my. 02.
