TJ vs JK opinions.

But what kinda real wrangler is offered in
2wd only...

:p
Lol. Counterpoint - Cj10a.

In my opinion, any wrangler that sees dirt is the real deal.

So getting the 35" tyres on a JKU is really that easy? Ride quality is still good in the JK? My OME equipped XJ spoiled me for ride quality, but it was a mild, mild, rig. Still, it did everything I ever asked it to do. Man, I shoulda kept that Jeep.

Yes it is really that easy.

You can achieve it through flat flares.

Or 2.5" spacers/spring + extensions/shocks.

or if you do both you can run 37's easily. Though I would only suggest that on a Rubicon with stock front D44.

Visited one dealer today...I almost passed out when the sales guy told me they were firm at $41,000 for a 2014 Rubicon with soft top (cloth interior, no heated seats). I thought my Subaru WRX "Limited" was an expensive car! At this price point I can get a new Powerstroke F250!

I know, I know, comparing apples and oranges and bananas isn't fair. I might check another dealer next week, but my TJ looked really nice sitting in the garage when I got home.

Maybe a work truck package...

Last time looked at new Power Strokes they were starting in the mid 50s and it wasnt hard to get to 70...I'll just keep driving my 7 year old one with 200k on the clock

Lst year when I bought my 13' Sport I saw a few "bare bones" Rubicons going for 34-36.... New vehicles are stupid high.

Yea you can add a 2" spacer lift and run 35's. Heck you can even get shock extenders to stay on the cheap but I would recommend a decent set of shocks and you will be good for 35's. Id also get a set of swaybar disconnects or if you get a Rubicon just lengthen your factory links. There have been a ton of people who have done this style lift with great results. I have 40's on my JKU with only 3.5" of lift so that should tell you that it doesn't take a ton of lift to run bigger tires on a JK like it does on a TJ.

We rented a JK two summers ago when we were in Moab and it was a turd.It did pretty good offroad but was a absolute slug on the road and in town. The guy at the rental place siad if the trans temp light came on to pull over and let it cool off or "it might catch on fire".IIRC that was a problem for some of those, the cooler line retaining clips came loose/broke and sprayed atf on the exhaust,or something????

That's a bummer 1-Ton! Here's another thought I had thanks to Missus Sweetwater...

...bearing in mind that whatever I buy will be a DD, we already own a lifted TJ with soft top, we take the 2 kids dirtbiking several times a month, and we camp as a famly. I see a JK (or LJ) as a high capacity TJ to replace my XJ...

...Missus Sweetwater says, "why aren't you looking at Toyota Tacomas?" "You know we'd be able to take two bikes in the long bed with out the trailer and could probably tow a pop-up too."

Oh my, I wasn't quite ready for that rabbit hole.

That changes things alot in my opinion. If your wantin something thatll do all that look for a 3/4 yo crew cab diesel for the same money or less.

Double cab Tacoma's are going to be priced about the same as LJ's. The Tacoma can be capable offroad just needs se skids, sliders, some sort of suspension lift and tires. The TRD's come with a factory elocker as well.

Taco a beast for sure. you just have to tallythe benefits.

buuuuut you won't have

1. solid axles.
2. removable doors
3. removable top
4.Jeep wave,

well, don't expect every soccer mom to wave that's true.

But I give more than i get. I think mostly because the other Jeeps don't expect me to acknowledge them.

Jk owners don't wave . 1 out of maybe 25.
I don't really notice a difference between tj owners and jk owners when it comes to waving. I notice more of a difference between modded jeeps and stock jeeps waving.

4.Jeep wave,
Yeah that trail rated sticker and the jeep wave easily add $10K to the price tag.I never could understand "the wave" I'd be out in my blazer on tons and 42's and not a wave one but if I was out in my wifes old TJ on 31's I had all kinds of friends.I guess my douche bag persona was a little more obvious in the blazer.

It's a trail rated badge, not a sticker dick.

Lifted jks on 35s never wave around concord. Yuppies

They never waved at me in my XJ either...now, the little red TJ does get lots of buddy waves but I always chalked it up to Missus Sweet' being in there. She's cuter than I am.

On a serious note, I never really considered a less-than-half-ton pick up, but the Taco does check a lot of boxes: same MPG as JK (unmodded as a DD), longbed will haul two dirt bikes and gear (JK needs trailer, period), the factory options are nicely packaged, and at less than $32,000 I have found several new TRD "Sport" with V6 tow pack and upgrade radio. I realized the "Off Road" is only available short bed, so although really nice, a NO GO!

Decisions, decisions

I hope your takin the MPG claims w a grain of salt, rarely (if ever) does a vehcile get the listed MPG.I would like to know under what conditions were they able to get that mileage, down hill with a tail wind????

I hear ya.Maybe by the time my 7.3 gives it up the 6.0's and 6.4's will have all the bugs worked out of em.

1-Ton, I totally agree with the MPG garbage, and I'm currently commuting at 21/22 mpg in the city of Charlotte. My XJ got 14/15mpg with 30" ATs. I was OK with that...

Now, my 2003 2500HD, crew cab, long bed, 4x4, 6.0liter gas, that is used exclusively for the BIG trailer gets 9mpg, that's loaded or empty (I got 11mpg once...). I would actually commute in it, but it is freakin' hard to park where I work. So, I'm not really looking at used 3/4 ton trucks (I got this one paid for and beat up and good for what we use it for).

Again, I miss my XJ, should have kept it, it was perfect.
