Looking at a 80s model Chevy with a 350 and granny 4 speed... nothing special just lifted on 35s but was told it had double hump heads... how much different is the double hump heads compared to regular heads? I've messed with chevys before but don't know much about these heads. Do they make much difference?

They're mostly hype....probably better than a stock set of heads, but not by much. Now, if he said it had Dart Iron Eagle heads, then I'd be excited!

double humps are some of the better flowing stock heads. most of the power difference comes from being 64cc combustion chambers as opposed to the common smog era heads with 76cc chambers. the compression ratio difference will take a 8.5:1 smog head 350 to about 9.8:1 with the double humps. that being said, a set of 96-99 vortec heads(64cc) will give even better power than the double humps-there's boatloads of different aftermarket heads that make better power yet. I've given up on the older heads since it's hard to find a set in decent shape, they usually will need a valve job, give or take hardened seats and new valves, almost all will need new valve guides pressed in and new valvesprings-in the end about $4-$700 at the machine shop. double humps aren't a bad head, they're just hard to find in good shape and there's way too many better heads out there for not much $.

Vortec heads are a great option the machine shop i use was selling rebuilt ones for 250 new valves everything
