Are there any specialty or odd-ball tools needed to snatch a 5.3L? I'll be at the local pick-n-pull, so I'm just trying to be prepared. I figured one or more of you had done this before.

Torch, sawzall, and pry bars?

I always take my hand box with a full set of 3/8, 2 ratchets and a breaker bar. I use a 1/2-3/8 adapter for the breaker bar. I did split socket once doing this but sears replaced it for free so meh. A hammer and a couple different sized dykes and pliers. Hose clamp pliers if you have one come in handy for rad hoses etc... Also a couple screwdrivers, phillips and flat head. Lengths matter more than sixe on these, I take an assortment of lengths. Ive pulled 3 engines so far with this equip and have never been at a loss for tools.

If you dont want to cut the fuel lines you can get the fuel rail disconnect tools set from your local parts store for like 5 bucks. I actually use those a lot around the garage.

Im sure I missed something but this covers most of it.

If you pulling a whoe engine a battery powered sawzall or sawzall and generator are your friends

Buy a whole wrecked truck or SUV, pull motor at home then scrap the rest. This way you can get everything you want and need and not in a hurry.

Or buy one already pulled.

I just bought an 03 lm7 recently for $150. All I needed was a small utility trailer and a few ratxchet straps.

Pretty much everything on them is metric so have every size. If you have to separate engine and Trans, some long ratchet extensions are a must to get the bolts out. As tempting as it seems, do not cut any wires.

Bring a lot of different pliers for all of the damn zip ties and wire clamps Manu of which are hard to get to.

The fuel rail tool is a great item.
