Just got back from Moab and tested out the new toploader D60.

In actuality this is a buddy of mines rig, he made the mistake of running one UCA with a M12 bolt on his D60. Well coming off of rusty nail there is a long straight away good for some baja action. After a little bit of air the bolt snapped and did a 90* flip. Broke off the coilover collar, the upper arm, one of the hydro ram hoses, driveshaft, and pinion yoke. It made a fantastic shattering noise. Pics of the entire trip can be found here.

I thought about running a single upper on a long arm set up a few years ago on my MJ....thank god my buddies talked me out of it, with my love of the right pedal I think I may have broken all sorts of shizot.

Huh? So you ran Rusty Nail backwards?

BTDT on the front link failure. One of the guys in our group did the same thing coming off a drop on Fins & Things a few yrs ago. Fubared the whole front end, basically. It could have been worse -- your buddy could have been a whole lot further from the road. ;)

Near the end of Rusty Nail you can split off and run the back 1/3 of Golden Spike which spits you out at the trail head. Also how did anyone break on Fins and Things? That trail could be done in a cavalier.

But moral of the story.... running one single upper (especially with larger tires) can have bad consequences.

M12.. Guess he thought that 8.8 meant is was a grade 8..

Okay. I've always considered that to be the bottom of Gold Bar Rim. I thought it was marked that way from the turn-off that goes to Gemini Bridges. Either way, when I read it the first time, I thought you had come down Rusty Nail. No matter. Golden Spike is farther up. You run the last part of Golden Spike when you come out of Rusty Nail. That's where Golden Crack, Body Snatcher, Double Whammy, etc are.

The guy broke on Fins and Things the same way your guy broke on a dirt road -- poor suspension design mixed with inadequate parts.
