take some of those hand warmer things and throw them in your sleeping bag...works well for me

Not true, All the "solid" mattresses do is trap air in them by one method or another...that's what foam is. Either way, if you've ever slept on the bare ground in the winter you'll realize that an air mattress is worth it's weight in gold due to the heat you lose to the ground. (by air mattress I mean thermarest, not queen size :flipoff2:)
here's what I found

only a tenderfoot would sleep directly on the ground.
insulation is what I'm talking about:
does your home have some type of insulation in the walls or does your home have just an air barrier in the walls? It just makes better sence to me to use more insulation between you and the elements. air just doesn't make sence to me to be used as insulation. I have learned that a structure takes less BTU's to warm and keep warmed up if it has an insulation/air barrier rather than an just air alone as the barrier. do you see where I'm comming from?

so i may be changing my winter camping habbits a little

Pretty good article. The things I added were mostly things that I have learned the shitty way in the sierras/rockies/northeast/nc as well as using the Marine's new and old gear. Still, most of this stuff doesn't matter in wnc where you might see 20* at the worst, unless you're on roan or mitchell.
I can't wait until it actually snows...

Someone had to do this... might as well be me! :D
