Not 4x4 related but I am trading my tow pig Saturday for a smaller truck (2015 Nissan frontier QCSB 6 speed) and I am going to need to pull my mustang next July about 300mi. Would you trust a tow dolly that far? Do they sell a dolly kit like they use on a wrecker so all 4 tires are off the ground? If a tow dolly would be fine would you back the car on? Or pull it on forward and pull the D shaft?

One time trip? Uhaul? Pull the drive shaft.

Itll tow 6500lb so you could probably get a 16ft car trailer and still be good.

I pulled a 16' craftsman trailer with a 3180lb Fox body GT all over the east coast with a 1991 S10 back in the day, that Frontier would probly be better than the S10. I have used a dolly before, backed car on and wrapped seatbelt through steering wheel and buckled (just in case) if you do pull the driveshaft, make sure you plug the rear of the trans so you fluid doesn't dump out.

I have pulled my very heavy yota to harlen several times with my taco it dose just as good as my all freinds full size Chevy get right at 13 mpg I do have trailer brakes Wich are nice but just take your time and it will be fine

Thanks for the input guys! I was considering the U haul route as well. My problem is its downhill anyway I go to the beach so I just wanted to minimize weight to save the brakes. Granted the 6 speed will help but I was just curious about a tow dolly. I have used them local (not more than 100mi). And they are a lot cheaper than a full size car trailer

I dont think I would buy a dolly. Just seems like a small car hauler is way more useful when not being used to tow a car

U haul trailers have built in surge brakes!!! We rented one for a run up to Maryland to get a little notch with said S10, it was a solid built trailer but it pulled and stopped great!!

To answer your initial question, yes I would trust a tow dolly for 300 miles. My parents use a tow dolly to carry their Buick behind behind their motor home and they have been to California and back with it and go to Myrtle Beach and the Outer Banks numerous times a year. New dollies usually come with brakes on them too, but for the cost of a new dolly I would just get a 16ft car trailer.
