The truck I was to borrow for the Jeepster/Commando trail run in Tn. fell through yesterday. I am supposed to be taking my 4 year old with me and I don't feel good about driving the Commando there, wheeling it, and driving it home with him with me.
I checked some rental places today, but they seem leery of towing.
Options:
1. Find someone else who will lend/lease/rent a rig for me to use.
weight will be around 5k, brakes on one axle.
Price could be negotiated. i have a clean driving record and insurance.
2. Find a rental agency that will allow (or look the other way) towing.
3. Drive the Jeep, pray, and disappoint my little wheeler by leaving him with Mom.
What do you guys think?

how about don't tell them you are towing with it, i know uhaul rents pickups with trailer hitches, i have rented one to take my truck to the dragstrip, i didn't even tell them i was going to trailer, just buy their $14 insurance and your good

Check into Triangle Rental Cars, they rent 3/4 ton SuperDutys. I rented one and towed my boat over 3500 miles. Rent it on your Visa card and Visa has its own insurance policy built in free of charge.

Another option is to see who rents those commercial vans (15 passenger), they are usually 2500 series and have a hitch? Would not mention the use / towing..pull the seats/leave em at home and you have a nice clean place to sleep inside too!

They usually have a decent mileage allotment too, since churches rent them all the time for big trips.

Thanks for the ideas, keep em coming. I have something on the burner right now.
I am always amazed at how much fellow wheelers will help out. It is one of the main things that keep me involved in the wheeling community. I just hope I am able to repay the karma going forward.

You can rent a 10 foot uhaul truck fro $19.95 per day plus .69 per mile if you reserve it a week in advance. You may want to check with a commercial rental place like Ryder. They have unlimited mileage plans.
