i have the opurtunity to get a rolling frame for a project of mine, a cj6. but it 4 hrs away and the only towing option i have is a 200 s10 and a tow dolly. is that enough truck for the task? it will be towed from the beach to kannapolis so all flat ground

I've done dumber things than tow a rolling chassis with an S10 on a dolly, I'm sure it could be done. Starting (what engine in the S10?) and stopping might be tricky, and your safety margin might be small. I'm not sure how legal it is, I think if it has wheels on the ground, its supposed to be tagged.

its got the 4 clylinder 5-speed, ive pulled a small mower sized trailer with it befor loaded down with engines on the trailer and 5 or 6 axles in the bed. so i think the weight stopping etc isnt to big an issue, its literrally a bare frame with axles and suspension i just dont know how it would pull with all the extra length out back

Other than some rattling, you won't know it's back there. Just be sure everything is secure, tied down/up, & safety chains on the tow dolly. Might want to take an extra tire or two, & tools, lug wrench, ect! lol:lol:

I agree! How much could this weigh, 500 lbs? Maybe even deflate the tires on the roller b/c it'll be bouncy.
Just do it and be sure everything is strapped it.

I think T is right 9technically) about dolly'd vehicles needing tags, but come on, in this case its not even a vehicle
in fact you may even be able to see your truck tag from behind it anyway. I think a cop would have to be having a really bad day to give you a hard time about the tags.

thats kinda what im thinkin, and i have plenty of spares just in case

I posted up in the FS thread on this...going to OIB in a couple of weeks, can take the trailer for a little gas $, and get it back as far as Sanford. Maybe up your way a couple of weeks after that.

I've towed several cars across the US behind a MH with a dolly. I found out that lights on the dolly is necessary.

If you do tow it you will do well to rig up some kind of tail lights for the chassis. Even at that people will still probably not see it and try to run it over. I use a small strobe light on the stuff I tow too. Better safe than beating some idiot driver to death with a lug wrench.
