2000 model jeep cherokee classic. 4WD, 4.0, auto. Would this vehicle be capable of hauling say a 14' trailer with a couple atv's?

Would it be a strain? Anyone use their XJ for hauling?

Yes it is capable.. Strain? not likely.. I do use my XJ to tow.. I've towed passenger cars (Pont Grand Prix v6, plymouth breeze, complained about towing these up the hills near me [pretty good grades]), my homebuilt dodge dakota trailer (bed+axle+frame, weighs 1000# unloaded, not much challenge for it loaded/unloaded)

so it depends what YOU are comfortable with. get a 2" receiver that bolts in like as many places as it can and other piece of advice is TRAILER BRAKES!

thanks for the info. I am comfy and use to hauling stuff, although its usually larger loads and larger trucks. Just wondered if the XJ could handle a couple atv's

I've used mine to to tow a car trailer and other stuff back and forth in Colorado. I have the factory hitch assembly. Up and down some of those mountain passes I wasn't setting any speed records but on the flats I could cruise... Same year and model as yours.
