IFS Toy, need to replace a bad CV. Have the 12mm bolt removed from the end of the CV but the CV shaft is very much stuck in there. Tried a little pounding, but don't want to mushroom the end so the splines bind.
I know there's a little C-clip in there that usually can pop out, I don't know if thats the bind or if it's just friction.
I can't remember, if you remove the whole locking hub from the wheel, does it expose that C-clip? i'd rather not go through the fight with those !@#$ cone washers and remove the whole hub if it isn't going to buy me anything here.

Let me start by saying I've never been into an IFS hub but plenty of times in a straight axle. I think you do have to remove the locking hub with the dial on it with the 10mm bolts. The aluminm hub body will not come off until you remove the c-clip behing the first layer of hub (dial).

When you get it off you can see the c-clip. Two small (#1) standard screw drivers are the best way I've found to get the c-clip off. Use one to get under it. Take another (longer #2 flat head) a third the way around and use it as a lever to pop it off. It will fly into oblivion if you aren't carefull!

Then you get to fight the cone washers. They aren't that bad. Take a block of wood (2x4 scrap) and your favorite hammer. Whack the aluminum locking hub body by hitting the bock of wood at the edge of the aluminum. Rotate and repeat until you go all the way around. You may need to take another lap around. I've also used a hammer a directly hit the steel as close as possible to the aluminum hub housing and the shock almost shoots the cone washer out.

Hope this helps ya...

frankenyota is right, you need to take the locking hub off to get to the c clip which is holding it on. I have found the method above works as well as hammering a flat screw driver into the cone washer where it can expand. (hammer the screwdriver towards the truck).

yep - once the hub was off, the c-clip was exposed so it could come out, as soon as that sucker was off the cv came right out.
I sure thought it was possible to get the CV out w/o removing the hub, guess not.
