i can not find a 90-95 toyota 4x4 4cyl and i may have to go with a 6 cyl are they really as bad as they sound with the head gaskets and the fuel mileage as every body says and if i buy one will toyota fix the head gaskets for free with the recall

They aren't as bad as they are made out to be. They are the worst engine Toyota ever put out. You only get an average of 250k out of them without major engine work. (How many other manufacturers can say the same thing). Odds are they've already had the head gaskets put in them. I've heard they tend to drop a valve at 250k. If you had the heads off for head gasket work, have a new set of valve springs and valves put in and you're good for another 250k.

As far as gas mileage, if you are easy on it you'll get the mileage of a 6 cyl. Be hard on it and it goes down. My 22r gets pretty bad mileage and has absolutely NO HP. So I'd rather have a 3.0. It would be better in the hills too as I wouldn't have a carb to fool with.
