hey guys, after a day of wheelin i was heading out of the trails and i noticed that my motor was reving unusually high for the speed i was going (sloooow) . the next day i went to take off out of my driveway, which is fairly steep, and she barely went anywhere even though the rpms were flying. today she wont move anywhere, in any gear. It is a 1988 4runner, with the automatic tranny/t-case combo unit. any ideas? i dont know shit about trannys, the only thing i thought it could be is maybe the torque converter? thanks, cody

If it is a 4cyl, I got one I'll sell. Cheap.

And if it's low, odds are the tranny is toast.
 
nah the fluid is full. it deff not that, it was the first thing i checked. its never givin me any problems before. of course ive never messed with it before. talked with a tranny guy today he said sometimes they get so full of metal flake and stuff in the filter that fluid cant get through so ima check that. he said it was most likely the torque converter though. guess ill find out.
 
^^^ agree but it won't hurt you to pull the pan and check it out.
How doest he fluid smell? What color is it? Shoudl be cherry red, likely more of a dark color but if it's really brown/rust colored you've got problems.

it sounds like it's in like 3rd gear.
 
thanks alot guys. if it will ever quit effin rainin outside i can crawl under her and take the pan off and look for that screen (thanks transman) and check all that. hey ive wanted to ditch hunk and get a manual anyways. maybe its a sign.
