Toyota backspacing

So does anyone know if and when Toyota changed the wheel backspacing on their trucks. Is it different from model to model? Just got some wheels and tires from a '93 and the backspacing is way more than my AR wheels that came w/ the truck. The '93 wheels leave about 1/2 an inch between the frame and the tire. The AR's are more like 3 inches. (rear, haven't tried the front yet). It looks like the tire would rub if the suspension drooped to one side.

Not a toy guy at all, but, it may be the difference in 2wd and 4wd also, as years go by things got wider for safety ratings

AR wheels didn't come from the factory, and have less backspacing than factory wheels.

Measure the wheels when you buy things, don't worry about what they were bolted to.

Factory back space on an '84 is 3 3/4", this is same for all '79-'85 solid axle 4x4 trucks with 15" stock wheels.

'86-'95 stock wheels were 4 3/4" these wheels will fit the rear axle, but not the front of a STOCK solid axle truck, as the wheel will hit the tierods/ steering arm.

AR wheels with 4" back space will fit solid front axle but you may have clearance issues with clip on wheel weights ( I had to use a 5/16" spacer to clear the tie rods on mine ) it gets very close.

As for the rear axle, the IFS backspacing on a stock axle equiped '84 will put the side wall VERY close to the frame.

The popular swap if you want to stay with Toy axles is to swap to '86-'95 truck rear axle which is 3" wider ( 1.5" per side outside the spring perches) and as an added bonus the rear drums (ick) are larger in diam.

Yea, I figured the AR wheels were different from stock, but I didn't realize the toyota wheels were that different. Not that big a deal, I'll just have the tires swapped. Just thought it would be a quick swap in my driveway.
