Anyone running a stock drive shaft on a V6 4ruuner or truck with 37=40" tires. Are stock shaft pretty stout? I have one built and I think she is bent...bad vibration on the road. V8 yota behind me today said she was wobbling pretty bad. I just wonder it it could be a pinion bearing? The seal is leaking. I checked joints and there is no play. If you have a stock shaft or know someone that can build one for good price please let me know....

To this day I have never seen a stock toy d-shaft u-joint break!

Is it a one piece? If so I have a lathe and all the necessary jigs to build one for the road!

P.S. Is your kid ok?

I have spun a stock shaft 4 times and it never broke ha ha... I rung the hell out of it in Crozet. I still have it hanging in the garage as a conversation piece. It got me off of the trail too. If you nick it, or scare it up pretty bad, or put a nice dent in it, and then put a good load on it..... it will give eventually.

They will hold up decent. I broke the output shaft off my t-case, as well as busted the CV joint (u-joints and all) all to pieces. This was also the larger Tacoma driveshaft. My driveshaft tube was 1/4" wall, I was on the gas pretty hard, and slid back down off a rock and slammed the d-shaft on a rock. I would guess that with a thinner driveshaft it may have just bent, would have possibly saved breaking the output shaft, as well as the CV joint. That is only theory though.

A stock driveshaft might be anywhere from .063-.090 thick. I would suggest making one out of .125 or so. It would still bend if hit hard enough, but would take most hits in stride.

No. Ive been wheeling twice in my truck since I finished it, and broken 3 driveshafts. The stock rears are damn near paper thin. If you dent one it will wrap up really easily. The front one that I broke was understandable. (broke the ears off after launching up and coming down with the tires still spinning.)

Mine is 1/4 wall now and Ive smacked it (broke 2 stock ones the first trip out and then built this one) a bunch at DPG and not even a dent. Some people build them double the wall of stock and they work pretty well.

Well I have a custom 500.00 drive shaft from All pro. No dents or nicks it ust came down hard on a rounded rock at daniel and is bent slightly. A buddy riding behind me home said it was wobbling pretty bad. Instead of spending a ton on a new custom shaft I thought I would run a stocker and see if that really did get rid of the vibration I have...

Landon yea the kid is cool. He has to wear a cast for 4 weeks...He is so funny a 2year old with a big blue cast..He is beating the hell out of my 9 year old with it. Landon wife out of town until Wed. If you are working on your rig tomorrow night monday I will be there.

Option 2, is to use all my ends, CV, splines and just get the center tube replaced at the axle shop in Conover in the old Coors building. Any one used them?

It is maintance time on the old yota...5 long trips on her and she needs some tlc. If any one has a stock shaft I could run ust to see if this is the problem that would be great. I ust wanna borrow it for a day or two and bring er back to you.

The u-joints are very strong provided you ONLY use OEM Toyota u-joints. Aftermarket replacements are FAR weaker.

As for the driveshaft itself, you're asking for it running anything less than .120.

Landon you gonna be in the shop tonight? I promise to be there.

I just jacked it up and spun the shaft and it is bent not to bad....it looks like the DS is hitting the gas tank skid which means it is the trac bar in the back off setting the axle under flex. I guess I'm gonna need a new shaft Landon. I will come by there about 6:15.

I've heard of those long slip splines from All-pro bending... You might want to check and see if it's the tube or the slip spline that's bent.

I second that....double check that before you have it retubed

Our buugy still using stock joints, i just retube them with .188 wall. I been throught several birfs, orginal longs, r&p, aftermaket CVs...the one thing that has not broke is the stock U-joint itself
