I havent been able to get in touch with the person who worked on my truck to find out if any of the driveshafts were modified or not already. Hoping yall could let me know what i have, and any suggestions on how much travel i should have in the end. Just would like to know before i take them to get any modifications done(planning on taking them to olivers in winston). Ive got rears up front, chevys rear, 4.3/th350/duals.

the forth one from the left in the top picture is the driveshaft that was on the truck when i got it. it had stock springs up front and a 203 tcase. and one of the driveshafts i got in a partial trade that was supposed to be modified for a 4-5" lift for a IFS truck. I was told i needed 2 (pre-'85) cv's so thats why i have those two laying there. Ive never messed with driveshafts obviously. Should i just take them and get a cv put on the rear shaft up top and have it shortened, then one of the other cvs i have up top on the front and lengthen one of them?

thanks

Driveshafts

Chad---------All the driveshafts You have have Stock toyota Slip Yokes-----Not going to enough travel for the Front (When the Alxe drops the Driveshaft will come apart) The stock toyota will work on the rear-( just will need to be cut right lenth)---and You dont have to run a CV Joint on the rear-but u can
Olivers has the Long Slip Yoke that u need------ Just take him a Good CV joint for the Front---and Very good mesurements
Measure--- with the truck setting Normal--- Alxe all way Droped---- and then all way compressed
If u need anything else give me a call

Oh check the Bolt Pattern on ur Driveshafts to make sure they match up with Ur Alxes and T Case--Toyota has 2 are 3 bolts Patterns

thanks alot David.

Any idea what kinda ballpark cost im looking at to get this work done?

is it recommended to run a cv joint in the rear?

Drive Shafts

Id say around $250-for Both------ It Depends on witch Slip Yoke U use-------He has some 8 in one that are not that much
On my Truck I tried that one but had to changeto a 12 in one
And for the Rear---------Kida depends on the Lenth of the Driveshaft-------- With Ur setup-------It maybe Getting kida Short------------If I remeber----the rear on my truck is around 53 in-----and I am not runing a CV on it
remeber--the rear dose not travel Near as Much as the front
If ur going to keep it, ULL need to Upgrade to heaver tubing ( the toyota Stock Shaft is very thin----ULL bend it 1st time U set it down on a rock--Ask me How I Know LOL )
Talk to Anthony at Olivers--------He will no what u Need

You don't have to use a CV in the Front....... I used to run a CV in the front, and now I just run a single toyota universal in the front. It has some vibes while your trying to run "at speed" in 4x4, but I am twin sticked, and I just pop it out of 4x4 and put it into 4x2 and the vibes go away. I got tired of breaking CV's....... Haven't broke the single universal, yet. With the CV......... there are 2 universals with some type of ball inbetween them to keep them syncronized....... if you bend the CV too much while flexing it will break the ball loose from those two universals and then you will have a broken CV and the two universals will not be in synch. and it sucks...... Either way will work. My truck is an 84 and has 2 CV's in it that were pre 85. Hope this helps.
