So I am trying to get my 22R started. This is a new rebuild and I have tried to keep it as simple as possible.

I did the GM ignition module conversion the other day since I didn't have a toyota coil / igniter and it was much cheaper to do the conversion.

For those of you that do not know about it:

Take a GM 4pin ignition module and connect the two wires from the toyota distributor to the (W) and (G) post on the module. Then run a wire from the negative on a 12V coil to the (C) post and a wire from the positive on the coil to the (B) post on the module. Then connect a wire from your ignition switch to the (B) post. The back of the module is metal and serves as the ground when mounted to a metal surface (I ran a wire from the module mounts to a ground also just to be safe)

I am using an Accel 8140 coil and a module from an 85 chevy suburban. Stock Toyota 22R distributor.

I don't have any spark. I have pulled the coil wire and it won't jump to the block. I have measure everything and all appears to be OK.

I have: 12V at the ignition and at the module and coil with the switch "on"
1.7 ohms primary and 9200 ohms secondary on the coil
165 ohms across the coil pickup (spec 140-180)
.009 clearance (air gap) between the coil pickup and whatever that thing is called on the distributor shaft (well within spec)
I had the module tested and it checked out OK.
I have tried another coil and another pickup with no results.

Has anyone else done this conversion? I am not real savy with the electric stuff, but I can't think of anything else.

We did manage to get it to spark yesterday at the coil wire. Then checked a plug and it fired. Once I got everything buttoned up to try to start it......nothing. More of the same today. When it sparked yesterday we had some voltage across the negative and positive posts on the module, but now it is acting like it's not getting a signal again.

I am going to rob a toyota coil / igniter from a friend's truck and see if I get anything. But I hope someone can tell me if I am doing something wrong.

Thanks for all the help guys:rolleyes:

I got it straightened out.......I forgot to run a ground from the block to the frame. :shaking: 3 days worth of swearing, throwing stuff, and total confusion because of a single wire.

For the toyota guys out there I would pick up a cheap coil and GM module to throw in the tool box. What a cheap and easy trail fix if your yota coil / igniter were to go out.
