first i will tell you what i have then whats wrong.

85 4runner 22RE with an automatic

the problem:

when i put it in drive and try to move it will barely move. and when i say barely move i mean wont make it over a 2" bump to get into my garage. but if i put it in reverse it will pull just fine. the "charge" light came on. also the clock in the dash usually doesn't work but now it is and the rear power window and wiper has stopped working. other thing that have stopped working with this is the fuel gauge and the temperature gauge.

any ideas? just bought this thing 2 weeks ago and this is breaking me bad.

thanks

Check you terminals and all your fuses.
ex. In my tacoma...the fuse for the dome light made the clock/ radio memory not work.
check for bad grounds
I don't know what to tell you about the tranny because I've never had an automatic but I have had the same electrical issues. Mines was just the battery. Also check the wire going from the battery to the fuse box

Tranny, check the fluid, odds are it's time for a rebuild.
The charge light. Get a multimeter and put it across the battery terminals. Should have +or-14 volts.
The clock. Be glad.
The rear wiper/back glass. There is a contact for when the top is off to keep the glass frome coming up. I think it's in the pass rear corner of the tub. check to be sure it didn't vibrate the connection loose.
After you check the fuses and grounds.
Good luck, let us know what you find.

Has the OD light been blinking when the OD button is pushed in? If so you have a code for the tranny. The very first thing I would do is unplug the ECT unit for the tranny and do a manual shift. It's under the radio in the front part of the console.

1 will be 1st, 2 will be D, and D will be OD. You will not have 2nd gear because the solenoids are not working. If it does the same, maybe the torque convertor.

checked out the fuse panel and one of the fuses wasnt contacting on one side. pushed the contacts together and now everything works, including the tranny
