A friend of mine has a 85 toy 4wd truck with a 22RE, he is trying to put a 94 22RE in it.
The 85 has 3 plugs on the harness,
the 94 has 2 plugs on the harness.(2wd truck engine)

What he needs is what does he need to do to mate the two different years together to make it work.
TIA

Im sure some others will reply with some good advice.. So without knowing much about toys, my guess is it will be easier to swap intake manifolds and the included sensors(wires etc) all in one shot... It may be possible to just trace out what is different and 'thread' in the older harness on the newer engine, eliminating whats not needed..

He is going to have to use the intake and all associated parts and electronics off the 85 engine on the 94 engine including the harness.

the other option is the get the MAS, computer and harness from the 94 truck and swapp it all.

the mass air flow sensor is different and some of the other electronics. I believe the distributor is allso wired different so that will have to be changed also.

it is not a straight swap that is why the plugs are different

Which end of the harness has the 2 or 3 plugs? The end that goes to the control unit? I would think that he would need everythingfrom the 94 truck to get it to work. Or is he just replacing the block and head? (Old one is broke)?

the 85 and 94 have totally different EFI systems, electronically.

Other wise the engines are the same, change the intakes between and keep the year specific parts together.

the temp sensors may be the same ( front of lower intake) but the injectors and injection system are of different electrical values ( ohm's/resistance ) I don't recall if the dizzy is different or not ( easy enough to look)

while you have the engine out, might want to check the timing chain guides, just easier now than when it's in the truck.

I put an engine from a 22re from a 1994 truck into my 1988 truck two years ago. Like others have said I had to swap a few things. Throttle body, all of the coolant sensors, knock sensor, distributer. Everybody told me that the injectors would not work because of the electrical differences. I wanted to go wheeling so I said F it and used them. I had planned on swapping the injectors when I got time but the truck is running strong to this day. Your milage may vary.

Really, See the thing is the actual plug in to the top of the injector changed in 89 4runners and trucks for the new style injector, humm. So you would have had to use the 94 harness which would not have plugged into your computer or your body plugs if you say you swapped computers. An had you changed the harness why not just pop the fuel rail off. If you say you used the old style harness you could not and would not have been able to swap the distributer b/c the plugs are different
