What is this part? The big hose is hard as a rock and greasy on the under side. Don't know what to call it to get parts.

'84 yota 22R Attached to the intake manifold.

If I remember correctly, it is the A.I.R. pulsation valve. ( A.I.R = Air Injection Reaction )

Works like an AIR pump, but uses the pulse of the intake runners and exhaust to pump air into the exhaust stream.

Is hooked to the air cleaner on top of engine, and there is a hose/tube from valve running around to the exhaust manifold where the A.I.R. tubes enter.

I don't know what it is or what it does but I can tell you that it won't run for shit without it.

Yea, It has to at least be plugged off. Learned that while cleaning out the carb. Kevin, how does it get the air to the exhaust? The whole thing is on the intake side. Does it go through the head or something? I think I'm just going to use hose clamps on it rather than replace the hose.

Odd looking critter...is that a California motor?

Toyota did put altitude compensator devices on some motors like that but I never looked at one. You may be able to plug the vacuum connection and take it out of service.

Not a california motor. It was bought in high point. Don't really need to take it out of service as it still works. Just wondering what it was to get parts, (hoses), but I just put clamps on the ends so I should be good to go. Now I just gotta figure out why it's leaking fuel. Replaced the fuel lines from pump to carb andline to pump, but it still seeps out of the line to the tank. I've also replaced and moved the clamps but the stupid thing still leaks. I guess next is the fuel pump.
