So I was on my way back from getting a new bag for my new to me free Kirby vacuum, (Which is awesome in itself) when I saw this on the way home. A genuine '93ish Toyota Hilux Diesel. It's got 4 doors and a solid front axle. Tagged in NC but definitely not from these parts. Sorry for the crappy cell phone pic but I was doing 70 on the interstate at the time.

Hey Man,

Yep, that's me. I was headed back from my parent's house in Clemmons. I tried to wave when I saw your NC4x4 sticker.

Oh, and Kirby vacuums are old school goodness. Like if Mad Max had a vacuum, that'd be it.

How come we have not seen pics of this yet? (Probably cause everyone would want to buy it from you right?)

Yea, the GM at work had this vacuum from moving his parents. They quit using it because the belt stretched (after 10 years) and the brush quit rotating. (And it was too heavy for them) I just installed the extra belt (that it came with) and was in business. The bag was mostly full so I had to go find some. It's even self propelled!

It's still a work in progress... front springs sagging and all that. I'll upload some when I get it closer to being done. I usually just use the thing for work on logging roads, etc, but it gets almost 30mpg and I can run it on bio or part veggie. That's the big thing for me with diesel being $4.00.

I hear you about the cost of fuel. Where did it come from?

Originally it was from somewhere cold, Greenland I think. The US gov brought it back and sold it at auction in Va. It had two block heaters, no a/c and a half inch thick layer of mud under the vinyl mat. It had a hard life previously. The engine was a naturally aspirated that I swapped for a 2.4 turbo and now I can actually go up hills without shifting. Geared 4.56 so top speed is around 65 with 32 inch tires. The rear end is a factory LSD that I'll eventually swap for an elocker and put the LSD in the front. It's definitely a work in progress, but I like working on it because it's stone age simple. Next on the agenda is new suspension.

The chances are pretty good yours is the one I drooled over about 4 or 5 years ago when you came by Modern Toyota in winston salem. Very cool ride.

Yep, they did my knuckles and front bearings. That was before I learned I could do things just as well myself. My wallet still hurts.

So where did you get the turbo'd engine? And what trans is in it?

A guy in Burlington just happened to have a turbo engine with like 30k on it. It needed the pump rebuilt from sitting so long, but Diesel Equipment in GSO did a great job with it. The transmission is a G58, 5 speed. The diesel bellhousing comes in two flavors, one that works with the W/G and the other fits an R. So I have a chain driven transfer, but I doubt I'll change it unless I run across a really good deal.

Cool! Thanks for the info! I'd think you could find a W56 or something to get a gear drive T case. Sounds like you got other places to spend money right now though.

I have drove several of these trucks and been hard on them my 3 times to afghanistan lol! They def out power my truck anyday torque is awesome! I drove the newer ones alot too.

Ben, you can't compare anything with more than 50hp to your truck, my 230cc dirtbike had more power than your POS...

And TMC, NICE truck!!! I would LOVE to have one of these, I always thought they were 'unobtanium' in the states, now you just need a rear bumper from the looks of it!

A buddy of mine must have your trucks brother/sister...also came from Greenland, bought at Gov Auction in Va, etc. Also had a rough life it seemed, had both driveshafts dented from being picked up with a forklift a few times, etc. I just texted him to see if he has a pic.

That'd be great if you could get us connected. My front driveshaft was bent a bit. I never thought about them using a forklift for moving them.

And Tacoma747... It has a bumper, but for some reason it's really low and set in from the back of the truck. Someone would definitely hit the rear before hitting the bumper that's there. I'm going to get a buddy of mine to move it up and out because his welder is 220 and I wouldn't trust my little MIG for that.

would it happen to be this one? If so, i'm the guy that bought the power window stuff from bout 4 years ago.....still drool over this thing when i see it.
