my 85 straight axle is having some problems. At any speed it vibrates. I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the 4.5" lift and the OEM push-pull steering setup. It is very noticeable even at 2mph. Im just not familiar with toyota's so im having a hard time figuring it out.

oh and just to clear it up. I checked the lug nuts and yes they were only hand tight. Guess I should have checked that when I loaded the truck on the trailer.

I tightened them and the problem persisted.

I put it up on the lift. I dont see anything that looks too out of the ordinary other then the fact that someone put a Hydro7000 shock in place of a steering stabalizer and there is a ton of grease oozing out of the knuckles. I tried turning the wheels with it on the lift and there was a ton of tension in the steering. I'm thinking it could be that attempt for someone to make a steering stabalizer out of a full size shock?

I've got a drop steering link out at our shop in Deep Gap that we can try out to see if that helps the issue any. My truck had wicked death wobble before we rebuilt the knuckles and did the crossover steering.

that would be great. I sat down and wrote a list of things I could think of and people suggested.

T-Case yoke to rearend
U-Joints
Flange Problem
Steering arm nuts
Motor/Tranny Mounts
Pinion Flange Nuts?

I wish I knew more about these things, haha

You need to check the trunion bearings. If its too stiff to steer, odds are they aren't shimmed right. Also check the link for the steering. (Pitman arm to axle) Could also be worn out wheel bearings. With wheel off the ground, grab the top and bottom of tire and try and move it. Could also be the axle nut being loose causing the wheel to wobble. Also check the pre load on the steering box. Shouldn't have too much play in the steering wheel.

Drive shaft bent? Check that, they cause vibrations all the time.
