My brother-inlaw's truck an 86 has a busted boot on the cv. Can you replace just the boot beings the cv is still in good shape?

I have never replaced one but you should be able to replace the boot.

yes...I just did it a couple of months ago. Seems like the boots were less than 10 bucks a piece and came with the grease as well

You can get the boot from Downeyoff-road. I used these boots several years ago on another rig, the replacements from Downey are worth the extra money. At $14.00 it is no too steep.
