i had my ignitor go out on my 80 toy 4x4 with a 22r engine and i didnt want to spend 335. for the new ignitor and it took to long to get a good used one and i found a converion that uses a chevy coil and ignition module. and it took about 30 min.to change over and i used some old parts i had around and it started up and runs as good as before .just think i iknow i am not getting toyota reliablity but for 45 dollars i can buy a lot of parts if needed .

Mine went out a while back and you're right about the price! (And nobody had one including Toyota!) I jsut got a used one here. Had mine running the same day. I don't think they go bad very often considering how few there are at parts houses. Toyota had 1 on the east coast.

They'll probably last a good long while. If it's not a part that goes bad, noone stockes them. So they must not go bad all that often. I think part of the demise of mine was that I kept having a spark plug wire come loose. It might have added to it.

I've got one, coil and ignitor from an '84 carb truck, $50 takes all. ships on your dime.

toy converion

the main reason i did the converion is the truck is being traded and i dint want to pit the extra money in it and i thought that if someone broke down for that reason it is a opption for them to fix to get off the trail and i did find this on pirate 4x4 thanks for all the input

Yea, Mine is off an 80 model, had to convert from 2 one wire plugs to 1 two wire plug, but even the wire colors are the same. Thanks Blkvoodoo, but hopefully mine will last a long time. I'm just a bit of a purist and wouldn't put GM parts on my yota.
