So I’ve found the obvious weak link in my rear case and since I’m down, I’m going all in. I ordered the marlin crawler competition 4.7 gear set. When I took it all apart, I found some issues that need to be dealt with. The output that’s in there is a TG but there is some damage to the 2wd/4wd gear, so I’m replacing it.

Here is the question. I currently have a trail tough rear disconnect….

Do I replace the TG output and keep the rear disconnect, orrrrrrr do I go with the marlin crawler beef and get rid of the disco? ( there isn’t a disconnect for the 30sp marlin output)

My rig is a light weight, 120” wheelbase Toyota with 60s and 39 reds and a 22re. Thanks in advance.

Well damn lol

30spline marlin if you can get it.

Did you ever have any problems out if that disconnect?

The 30 spline main shaft is significantly bigger than the TG. I had an og longfield shaft in mine for years. Never had any problems out of it, but when I swapped comp gears in my case I did the Marlin 30 spline outputs at the same time. No ragerts.

Pics of the school bus!

To be honest, I’ve never felt like I needed front digs in mine. But maybe it’s because I’ve never had that ability and I just don’t know what I’m missing. I’m at 115” wb and on 42” treps. Pic of rig for reference:

I been gettin stupid lately, I was up on a nasty hill and literally pivoted around a huge rock and came back down. The front dig is fuckin awesome!

Have you considered an atlas instead?
Absolutely, unfortunately to get it setup the way I need it it’s going to be stupid money up front which I just don’t have
I've got the TG 4.7 gears for my buggy, no plans to run a disconnect. I have a Tracker/Toyota doubler setup. I'm 106" on 40's. If the TG stuff doesn't hold up, I'll go with the 30-spline Marlin stuff.

Once you get use to not having front dig, you really wont miss it. I went from yota cases to atlas and still dont use front dig that much because i'm use to not having it. I always wondered how strong the marlin output would be as compared to the rcv. I broke two rcv outputs before my old buggy got retired. Old buggy was 123" wb also for reference on the front digs.
