It's time for the swap, but I've ran into a issue. Was going with the barnes universal 3 link kit, but now my mind has wondered to Ruf, 63 chevy out back. I have the chevys, and can use the rears that come off my truck. A few questions that need answering (yes I used search and didn't find what I'm looking for)
1. Street manners of a leaf spring solid axle swap vs 3 link. Truck gets drove on the street alot. Won't be wheeled to the extremes that some of yall do
2. I want a low kit. ...35s are the max that I want to run. What's holding me back on the leaf kits is there all tall. Who has a kit that's not very tall.
3. Is there any difference in all these kits. I want to stay USA made so that knocks out some. Since I have springs I was lookin at the sky manufacturing kit. ...any feedback or horror stories about them.
Thanks in advance....any help is greatly appreciated

I have a 84 with the old man emu kit I like not USA made but they are the only one that I think keep the truck low my truck is on 33's but would clear 35's my 83 crawler has tg 3" front springs and Chevy's out back and with a little cutting I run 38's and I would drive it down the road if it wasn't on unbalanced beadlocks now with your truck getting SAS you have to watch which front hanger you use because some of them add lift that you might not want

The leaf springs will drive fine on the street.

They are hard to keep low on leaf springs. A friend of mine used a shackle slider to try and keep it low...

How well does that work. Never seen anything like that before. And is he only running one leaf for the spring

Maaaaannnn I thought these axle swaps were more popular than that. Ain't to many people chiming in. Way its looking in gonna go with the sky manufacturing stuff. I talked to them on the phone today seem pretty helpful

People do sas these all the time. The sky and the marlin kit are very popular.

3 link vs leaf, street manners?

That has more to do with proper setup of the Panhard bar to prevent bump steer, and then correct upper link length to keep the caster and pinion angle consistent through travel.

It also depends on what you want to spend and what you want to get out of it.

A sas with leafs is relatively cheap, and works well.

A link suspension with coilovers costs more, but can be more than worth it depending on what you plan to do.

I don't know about the USA made stuff, I didn't know there are any/many companies selling non-USA made sas kits?

It all depends on purpose, budget, and attention to detail setting up either option.

I'm running rancho 44044 front pack with one additional leaf in 3rd from main spot. Trail gear front hanger and shackles. Maybe 4.5" lift, I can go lower with a different shackle.

Bilstein 5150 shocks with 170/60 valving. 1985 4runner 5.0 swap tube bumper and winch. It rides and tracks very well on anything but worn out train tracks crossing. This time around I was very careful to set up pinion angle/caster and shackle angle as close to stock as possible without cutting and turning knuckles.

id give anything to have that 4WU kit. i just feel that its probably over kill for my needs, and ive got no idea how to set that up. Ive tried that link calculator thing and its like reading Chinese!!!! Links in the front are still not out of the picture, wish there was somewhere close to home to get that stuff and save on shipping. I like the price of his bracket kit but when you start shipping that tubing and stuff id imagine it gets expensive, could prolly save some cash here and there trying to find links and tubing local

And I wouldn't get caught up on the linking calculators online. There is only so much you can do with a full body and frame. If you really want to do a three link front and you keep a sharp eye on the for sale pages. You could do it for under a grand if you already have the axle. Most expensive part will be coil overs.
