i have been wantin to do a solid axle swap in my toyota for awhile now its an 86 model, and i put a 4 in rough country ifs lift on it about 2 years ago and it took forever and was basically a pain in the rear for nothing more than looks. i just want to know what all you have to do to put the solid axle under my truck, such as what i need to cut and weld etc. and about how much it will cost. any help is welcome and appreciated

Go to the build threads and check out the stickies my build is in there... And as far as cost if u source used parts u can come out good but some things will have to be bought..... U can spend as little or as much as u want...u can also check out pirate 4x4 they have a toyota bible with a crap ton of info

def check out pirates toyota bible. if you do your research, a SAS can be a lot cheaper. yotatech has some good build threads also

I pieced mine together from different vendors and used rear leaf springs up front for a few reasons. I bought an axle with a hysteer setup on it for the price of the hysteer. It can be affordable if you don't buy bling parts. I dropped almost a grand in parts in my axle in goodies not counting a free third.

I am building an 86 4runner with SAS myself. I can say that the most important thing to do is make a list starting with the last things you need to do and then work your way back to the first. The reason for this is because that way you wont overlook anything. I also spent some time at Holland's Auto Salvage in Fuquay Varina, he has nothing but 'Yota pickups, 'runners, Taco's, and T100's laying around. His price are unbeatable and he will help you make sure you have everything you need.

thanks for all your replies i have recently got a 87 that is sas i know its a lot better to do it yourself but i am gonna work on this thing some and see how it goes for me

for just the basic solid axle swap on my truck and all stuff to do it right but keeping cost in mind was about 1000 a new high steer kit took alot of that but i used autozone shocks 6leaf ruf tundra (f150) rears new shackled pre fab hanger and new u bolt flips just make sure you get it square so it doesnt crab down the road
