i have a 1985 toyota 4runner efi auto, went to URE today and used 4low and when i tried to go back into 2hi its like the transmission kicks into nuetral, checked the linkage and everything shifts right on the out side of the case but the transmission still just kicks into nuetral. When i put the case back into 4 low it does great and shifts perfect all the way thru the gears, searched but couldn't find anything, anyone ran into something like this before?

A340h? from what I understand, the switch between hi and low range depends on a solenoid that is activated when you flip the lever... I'd look into that...

pretty sure its a340h, i know there are 3 solinoids below the valve body but i thought they only controlled the shifting of the gears, there is a switch/actuater type thing that has 2 wires coming out of it that is on the shift linkage where it enters into the xcase, everything seems fine though and all the wires are hooked up
weird thing is, is when i just put it in 4 low it shift perfect i just dont understand why when i shift the xcase to 2hi or 4hi the trans just goes into neutral, no slipping or anything just straight to neutral

my 'rents told me the 'yota came back on a trailer. i was sorry to hear that. tear it down and build the shit out of it!!! i know i'm a bad influence. :)

i'd give some quality input if i knew anything about 'yotas. good luck getting it fixed.

yeah man i can drive it its just stuck in 4 low so max speed is about 25 mph haha so we just trailered it, thing is this thing crawled like hell but im def going to get a headach trying to figure out whats wrong with it

finally found some info on this thing, looks like the xcase is controlled by a solinoid inside the case, i didn't think there was one in there but i guess ill tear this thing apart tomorrow and see what i can find, any other help i'll take though

took hours to find some info but it seems like these xcases give a lot of ppl trouble and the internal electrical parts go haywire so i ended up just calling a buddy up and getting a whole nother transmission and xcase, i figured by the time i tore this whole thing apart and figured out what wasn't working it would have been easier to just get another one so i'm just going to run this case for a while untile i switch to a j shift

If you've already nabbed another box, it may be too late - but thsi would be a good time to swap to an AW4 instead. You should be able to swap the bellhousing etc, then you can get a real divorced t-case and such.

i didnt know that you could use that setup thats pretty cool, but in the future im either going to do that swap or since i have a 1987 xcase sitting around i think i may buy the adapter and stick that case behind it that way i can have a gear drivin case and be able to put 4.7s in it
