I reckon Ill put some pics of my progress up here as well.

This is my 3rd build since 2006 when I got the 4lo bug. Started with a bone stock 89 reg cab pickup and SASed it on 35s with stock gearing. Small cab sucked. I parted it out and got a 4runner. Built it to what I thought I wanted. 33s, 4.7 single case, locked rear, bumpers and sliders. It did what I wanted but I missed a bed. Traded it for a bone stock 92 regular cab pickup in November 2011. I knew that I was gonna put an extra cab on that frame. So, here are some pics of the progress.

Pic from the seller before I bought it.

After 6 years of wheeling, I have found that I dont like bouncing on rocks as much as I like trail riding and spotting, pulling cable, etc. I built this rig to get me up the trail, and to the bypasses so I can help the other guys in my group. I can haul more tools and parts since Im not doing the more technical stuff. I think this rig will suit my needs best. I have a set of 33s already and have 5.29 gears in the works. Dual cases will be coming next year (already have a top shift case). Exo cage will be coming next year as well. Questions, comments, and ideas are welcome.

I think it turned out cool man. What's the final color gonna end up being? Once it's all one color people are gonna think you shipped it in from a different country lol. The crew cab hilux's I've seen have a bed that looks like that. I'm diggin it.

Just for $h!+$ and giggles, here are a few pics of my old rigs.

Semigloss black. Rustoleum rattle can so I can touch up the paint easily.

Looks cool, it does look like a hilux from somewhere overseas. Why not bob the back off at the hangers!?!
The bed is already so short. If I bob it at the back, there wont be any room for anything other than my spare and hi lift (no cooler). Since this is my only truck, I still need as much bed as I can have to haul stuff around town.

Yeah it would be short! It may look a little too odd anyway, but would be cool to see (on your rig). Since this is your only truck it makes sense and departure angle from the grocery store is not too big of a concern.

Keep up the good work. I really like the proportions of what you have going on!

its different.. i think i would of stretched the wb and bobed the rear of the bed.. but to each man his own

If the departure angle in the rear is a problem, you could lift the whole bed off teh frame more (e.g. longer body blocks) which would effectively raise the departure space, but still leave the bed room. Don't know if it would look goofy though.
What kind of lift does it have now?

Also - looks like you raised the trans etc (hence the tunnel) - what did you do about the engine? lift it too? Not alot of height under the hood.

I really like the Ext cab on std cab frame idea, b/c of the shorter WB. the loooong wb on my '93 Xt cab drives me crazy, I've been thinking of hacking the bed and moving teh rear axle forward but that causes all kind of problems w/ the frame mount angles etc... this is a better approach.

I started with a 1" body lift to clear the sliders. I ended up having to go with a 2" to clear the gas tank. When I tucked the Tcase, I just loosened the motor mounts and the engine kinda pivoted on the bolts. Just tightened them back up.

Dave, if you wanted to move the axle forward, you could weld in some spring hangers kinda like the ones people use for 63s. I think shortening your wheelbase would be easier than swapping your cab to a reg cab frame. There is a ton of work that has to go into it. Only tough part will be the gas tank since it sits further back in the frame on the extra cabs.

I would say from what he said he was going to be using the truck for departure angle really wont be an issue

Ah, so this leaves the motor a bit tilted downward.
You have to look out for that, I did the same on my 4Runner, and in no time the motor mounts were shot, I guess from the extra torsional stress.
4Crawler makes some motor mount lift blocks to straighten it out, but can make them too out of some 1" stock.

That said... I just did the same thing on my truck ;-)
