I was woundering if any one has put a turbo on a non turbo motor(without changing a bonch of internal parts)?I am only wonting around 6 psi.Also if you have done it what parts work and what dont.Any insight would be great thanks jimmy.:driver:
 
I have a lot of experience with this. I've done 2 trucks, one making around 200hp and the other closer to 300hp. I would imagine this is a EFI truck, also what year. I will post some info after I close the shop up tonight.
 
It is a 87 22re.The motor is new so I thought now would be the time.I am only looking for more power for the road like when i pass or am pissed and wanna go fast lol.Thanks for looking
 
This is what I think you should do.
Pretty much you should find most everything off a RTE truck. Run the stock RTE exhaust manifold, CT20, RTE computer is a must, and RTE 295cc injectors. All of these parts will be plug and play for you. The computer will recongize everything and having that added compression will be great as long as you run 93. If you plan on trying to squeeze some more power out of this you will have to dump some serious coin. If you upgrade to a CT26 (same turbo they use on a 7mgte) you can gain some more power and may actually be cheaper for you since CT20 can be kinda expensive. You can elongate the hole on the exhaust housing and the turbo will fit on a factory manifold with no problem...you will have to take the turbo apart and clock it but is pretty easy to do. BE CAREFUL! If you run more than 8 psi the factory AFM becomes useless...meaning that standalone is required. Swapping to the all mighty early 80s AFM is a joke. It will create a chain reaction worth of problems and is a halfass way of trying to upgrade a 1st generation EFI system....believe me, I know first hand. For a oil feed you will use the fitting underneath the passenger side motor mount. You will have to take the motor mount off and 90 up and run over the valve cover down to the turbo. Steel braided line works best. For a return, just simply weld a fitting into the pan and 90 up towards the turbo for the correct drainage. For exhaust I ran 3" exhaust but that will be a little overkill for you....2.5 should be plenty and a upgrade over stock. Put the O2 sensor about 6 inches off the back of the turbo on the downpipe. If you have the coin an intercooler would be nice and help you stay safe with the added compression and you beating the tar out of it. A blow off valve will take the stress off the turbo and you have to recirculate the air back into the intake behind the AFM. The AFM has already measured that air and if you don't it will run super rich for a second and bog down the engine.
I think I covered it all but remember that a 22r is a glorified forklift engine....they flow like crap stock and they are hard to make decent power with. This link will take you to my website and it has a couple pictures of the 85 I turboed.

Just on a side note a MR2 CT26 will NOT work, only a supra. Kyle what did you do with yours, you were building one a one point weren't you.

An RTE? That was a few years back, never finished it. I am planning to turbo the 3FE in the FJ62 I'm building, but with pretty much whatever (small) turbo I can find cheap, as we are gonna have to fab everything anyway.
