Someone take me to school on the Toyota v6. The ones in the 89 to 96ish. What to look for in a used one major problems and what years they happened and so on. Thanks in advance .
This would be the notorious 3.0. Widely regarded as the worst engine Toyota ever put out. Good for blown head gaskets and dropping valves at (only) 225k or so. Not real good on gas and kinda low on HP. The 3.4 liter that came out in 96 was WAY better in every way. The head gaskets were all recalled and Toyota would put a new engine in your truck well past 100k if the head gaskets were the cause. I'd think by now that most all of those gaskets would have been replaced. Your best bet if you can get one cheap is to take the heads off and have new valves and springs put in it. Should be good for another 225k.
