I just put a 5" lift on my Toyota pickup ext cab. Now when I'm going down the road I hear a whining nosie but I can only hear it when I'm on the gas. As soon as I take my foot off the gas I can't hear it. It sounds like the nosie is either my center support bearing for my driveshaft since its at a new steeper angle or it might be in my rear end. Has anyone with a extended cab with a two piece rear driveshaft had this problem before?

I'd check clearances, ujoints, and then engine and tranny mounts, think you might have one in a bind and it's hitting metal to metal.

Seems it would be coming from the rear end from what you are saying...if the rear axle slides from shorter to longer try to grease it at the slide points. It may not be sliding where it needs to therefore putting the rear dif in a bind. If that doesnt help you may have to go to a one piece driveshaft. good luck

:wtf:

EDIT: Sorry to the op, I was so blown away trying to figure out what "slide points" are... Grease your U-joints and slip yoke, if that doesn't fix it you can block up the frame and spin the driveline to see if its binding. You could also try dropping your t-case xmember to ease some of the angle on the DS.

it only happens when your on the gas? could be u joints as stated, but due to axle wrap. when your on the gas, that pinion moves alot with some flexy lift springs, and causes havoc with ujoint angles

Thanks for all the help, I will try to make sure everything is greased up good.
Thanks again and I'll keep you'll updated.

Made sure everything was greased up good and I'm still hearing the noise. If it is the u joints which one would be making the noise or is going to be a guess and test game?

It could be any of them. Is this a whine or a squeek? Are your u-joints greasable? Like Chris M stated above, it may be a change in pinion angle due to axle wrap. Is it when you're in the gas hard or anytime you apply the gas?

It is whining, the u-joints are greasable and it did grease them. It make the nosie anytime when I'm on the gas. So if it is the pinion angle, what should I do to fix it?
Thanks for all your help.

...what should I do to fix it?
Thanks for all your help.

Honestly, take it to a shop. There are some really smart guys on here, but it is damn near impossible to diagnose a noise over the internet. It sounds like you have tried everything you could, its time to seek professional help.

Sounds like the pinion is in a bind by the descrption, you could get some pinion shims if thats the case

Damn, I meant driveshaft! Some driveshafts have the ability to slide from longer to shorter. Sometimes applying grease to area where the outer shell slides over the inner shell will help it stop binding. Sorry to "blow you away". :fuck-you:

Oh, almost forgot.... How is greasing a u joint going to help whining in the instance that he describes it?

My vote is it is pinion-angle related.
Check and ensure it is parallel to the output flange. Or, given possibility of a little axle wrap as mentioned, pointed just a LITTLE downward relative to the front.

In the end you'll probbaly want to switch to a CV-style shaft anyway.

Well it's impossible to know what a sound is just by someone describing it. Greasing the u-joints is the cheapest and easiest possible fix. If the problem is still present after greasing them, then you move on to the next possible thing, and aren't out any money from greasing u-joints. Process of elimination.

Oh.... Hey what color is your terminator?
