Alright guys, picked up a 205 a while back and am getting around to rebuilding it. My question is will I have enough room for it to fit behind my 4x4 tranny and tcase, cradle included, AND the rear shaft not be at a horrible angle? It's a standard cab on tons, around 10" suspension lift in the back. I've called around and shops can make me anywhere from a 6"-12" jackshaft. IF it won't work with the 4x4 tranny just be straight up with me so I can swap in a 2wd tranny. Only reason I'd put it behind my 4wd tranny/tcase is so I could have dual cases with the extra ranges. Advice appreciated. God bless

If you want to have a doubler why not use a Toyota doubler? I think no matter what you do being so short and so tall your going to make massive driveline angles

What he really need to do is sit down and make a plan. If you're really going to do a motor swap in the future, go with the 2wd trans and the 205. Then, you can use whatever motor and another matching 2wd transmission and not have to mess with the transfer case placement. If you're just thinking out loud and the 22RE won't ever go anywhere, then use the Toyota stuff. I can't keep stressing how important it is to plan ahead to keep yourself from having to spend money twice. Just stop over thinking it and pick one direction or the other.

X2. If you think you can get better angles with the 205, I'd rethink. You really need a np200 to drop the rear output. Or you can convert the 205 to offset outputs but will loose 2wd iirc. Either will likely need to mix with a 2wd trans to get the shaft longer. A toy doubler will be shorter than your jack shaft for the 205

Yes sir I understand that concept totally, if I swap out a 2wd tranny and have a jackshaft made that'll put my 205 yokes where my rear output is now, it'll work great.

If it where me since it sounds like you have the 2wd tranny and the 205 I'd lay them about with the distance you want them apart from one another then measuse from the Bell housing back to the yokes on the 205. Then figure out if your gonna clock it or if you can and figure out how far the yokes are going to be from the bottom of the frame. Then measure from the front of the 4wd tranny in the truck the measurements you took and run a string at that point from one side of the frame to the other, then drop down how ever far the yokes are going to be from the bottom of the frame rail. Then run a string from that point to the axle yoke and measure, and find the angle of the drive shaft at the trans and axle on both front and rear and then post those numbers and angles up. Someone on here will be able to tell you if those are usable numbers before you ever start on trying it.

Reread that and it's kinda hard to fallow. So here is a ruff sketch of what I was trying to say

Why would a Toyota dual case not allow a front driveshaft to be installed and work?

I bet if you lay the 2wd trans and 205 on the floor with enough room between to allow for the shaft that would be needed it would be longer than your current 4x4 trans and case.

Yes sir. It'll be week after next before I post the numbers. I'll be on vacation down in charleston. I'm hoping it all works out bc I damn sure miss my 4wd!

I think he needs it longer than what it is now? Did you read what I said and did it make since? lol

Okay glad it made since somewhat. Also I'm sure you could get someone on here with a Toyota doubler to pull the same measurements to compare to the 2wd and 205 numbers

Yeah if someone wants to post some numbers for me id appreciate it. I'm really no expert with this stuff quite yet but if anyone lives near asheboro that can help me out I can bring the truck over and some beer for your troubles :flipoff2:
