I had a great time! Thanks to the CTB for letting me tag along with them! I hate that I had to cut out early.
When I left the group I ran Welder backwards to get back to the main trail. Probably about 100 yards from the main trail I somehow managed to blow both beads on the driver side front tire. Apparently the Staun had failed at some point during the day and i didn't know it. Just a little pressure on the sidewall of the tire and "whoosh" it rolled right off the bead. I ended up just driving it back to the trailer on the rim. I think the tire and rim will both be ok though.

Just got home. Had a great time. Big thanks to CTB for letting me tag along. Was very pleased with how my jeep did. First hard wheeling I have done with it since Chris over at Mars Fab finished it.

It was great weather and a great turn out for an awsome cause.

Had a good day today on the way home. Myself and Chris (CLTDBA) and the wives took it easy on the way home and stopped off at a couple of winerys. It was an awsome weekend.

We had a great time yesterday riding as a guest with the Big Dixie gang. Great bunch of folks! A huge thanks for Kevin's generosity with the "blue" fuel when the Bronco went dry and you were right the pony didn't know how to act with that potent juice in it:lol: I'm sure I'll get an opportunity to pay it forward. It's cool to see families wheeling together like ya'll do. Well done Doug for a great event!

Just a few pics, a trail jamers group shot, the toy table,

On behalf of the Big Dixie Boggers, thanks to Doug & Team Turtle for a great ride to help give children a great Christmas! Glad to have been able to have been a part of this. Thanks to George, Chip & Kenneth for the help repairing the broken steering linkage on the Commanche. Thanks to everyone who came together to make this event happen. Btw, Doug needs to open his own BBQ restaurant & call it Turtle BBQ!

Me and most importantly my son Mason had a great time. I was amazed at how many rigs were on that mountain. Doug told me there was like 172 rigs there. Maybe he will confirm this soon. There will be alot of happy kids come Christmas time in that area due to Team Turtle's hard work and the participation of a great group of wheelers. This makes me feel proud to be part of the wheeling community.

Chad, I hope my welding held up good enough to get Shelly out of the woods. When I got done w/ yours there was another guy standing in line to get his steering welded too. I didn't catch his name but I hope it held up too. Knock on wood I've yet to use my home brew weldernator on my own Jeep but it's helped a few others continue their day or atleast get them back to the truck. Either way it's been a good investment.

Bro, I really hate that I couldn't make it again this year...
I'll be sure to have a toy with me when I see you at HALLOwharrie to make amends.

Btw, Doug needs to open his own BBQ restaurant & call it Turtle BBQ!
Perfect! ...because 'Team Turtle Vineyards, Hickory-Smoked BBQ, Homemade Country Sausage, and Precision Metal Fabrication Skunkworks' won't all fit on the sign!

Cheers!

The second steering you welded was on a cherokee that rode with a friend of mine (Mike- narrowed, exo'd chevy full size). They made it off the mountain and were very appreciatitve... they were shocked to find someone who could help them out.

It had been a few years since I was able to make the toy run and I'm glad I got to this year. I had a good time telling lies in the Mt. Empire parking lot Friday night and a blast riding Saturday. Felt good to be a part of a good cause. Thanks to Doug for doing a good job of organizing everything!

Trading Christmas toys for a day on the rocks

What started as a last-minute idea in 2007 to provide Christmas toys to Johnson County children has grown into an annual project for Doug Haynes and his off-highway four-wheeling buddies.
August 7th marked the third Toys For Rocks event at Callalantee’s OHV (Off-Highway Vehicle) Park. Haynes says 172-plus trucks showed up on Saturday morning bringing toys to trade for a day of riding on the rough mountain terrain. If the drivers weren’t loaded with toys when they arrived, they brought monetary donations for purchases. Most made a three-to-six hour trip one-way with one truck coming all the way from Daytona Beach, Florida.

Haynes and his wife, Lisa, again provided a hearty meal for the participants. Although the couple work hard to coordinate the entire event, they are quick to give credit to the four-wheeling community and the local business sponsors. “Without all of them and their warm hearts, none of this would be possible,” says Doug.

Flo Bellamy, director of the Johnson County/Mountain City Community Center, has been involved with the project since the beginning. As a volunteer in many capacities, she is familiar with the needs of the community. This year, they also sought the help of some local Headstart teachers in the county to make sure every child has a toy in their hands this Christmas.

Great Job Doug!
