TPS Sensor replacement assistance

I have a 2000 6 cyl. 4.0L TJ and the TPS sensor is going out. Every so often not enough fuel is being sent to the cylinders and it chugs/jerks at higher rpm (doesn't do it while idling).

Jeep is currently sitting at the mechanic's as I thought it would be covered under the extended warranty I bought, but it's not.

Is there anyone that is willing to replace it for me in the general Raleigh area on Saturday? Also, I'd like to help/learn how to do it myself if that's cool with you. If someone is willing to help how much would you charge? they are trying to charge me as much as the part costs at the shop.

Unfortunately I need to know before 5pm if someone here is willing to help as I can't leave it at the shop if they aren't going to work on it. Thanks!

It's really easy to replace. It attaches to the side of the throttle body with two torx head screws. Get the sensor at the dealer and swing by a parts store to get a torx socket set and swap it out. It will make sense when you have the new one in hand. The new one even comes with new bolts if you fubar the old ones I'd be happy to help you but I live 30 minutes south of Raleigh and have no time on Saturday.

X2

It's a gravy job. In addition it should have 2 wiring harness attached to it (possibly 1). If I could lift the hood of my Jeep I'd take a pic and point it out to you.

Sorry I'm W-S.

If you still need help, give me a shout I'll give you a hand.
I'd feel a heck of a lot more comfortable if someone were around in case I do fubar it even though it sounds pretty easy. My mechanical skills are lacking but I'm working on it. Can you do me a favor and send me a priv. mssg with your address and what time would be good for you? I appreciate it!

Always trying to start something.

Hey aren't you posting over here more than the club site...need I say more.:flipoff2:

it was easy, huh?

It was. After buying and seeing the part I realized it was no biggie. My husband taught me about my throttle body while doing the sensor replacement which was nice. When he got me a throttle body spacer for Xmas a couple years back he put it on himself so I never messed with it. Typically everything I get for Xmas now is Jeep parts and that's cool with me b/c that's when my Jeep is upgraded a bit every year harhar

One of the torque bolts was stripped so I had to remove the throttle body to get a better angle on it but that was a good thing because there was a bit of URE dust in there from when I drove back to camp after rolling it in the mud pit (I had to remove the air filter b/c it was so clogged). Anyhow cleaned that out and replaced the sensor and it's running great now. Nice to save myself $120.

Thanks goes out to Rox&Mud for the offer to help. I swung by anyway and talked a bit about his projects and such. Thanks man! It was nice meeting you. That's one of the main reasons I like the off-roading community. It seems like people are willing to help complete strangers with repairs or rolling your ride back over on all 4 wheels

Len put you to work on his wrangler while you were there?I voluntered to help him with a lower control arm problem and then 3 weeks later,he had a list wrote on a roll of toilet paper like it was the dead sea scrolls or something. He did help me get cruise on my tow rig.

HAHA put me to work on it? Nah...I wouldn't be of much help unless he wants it airbrushed lmfao

Cool dude tho, nice talking with him.

Piece of cake. The screw are lock tited in so be careful not to strip the screw heads. Maybe use a butterfly air impact. I should have. I had to go buy new screws.

Totally missed the continuation of this thread until just now, who's this Rox&Mud character ya'll are talking about I need to meet this guy.

No problem, glad it fixed the problem and saved you some money. It was good to meet you, hopefully we'll get a chance to wheel sometime. Thank you for the handy tool, I've already made good use of it.
