hey everyone, next thing i need advice on... apologies for the multiple posts. i am getting ready to build my traction bar for the yj and i believe i have everything i need. just need input on anything i might have missed. i have 4 pieces of 1.25 solid steel pipe, all with threaded ends and bolts/locknuts for adjustment (dads work is based from mining machinery so everything is.... heavy duty... if thats the word for it. i picked up 21' of 1 5/8 ODx .191 wall pipe for the crossmember, 4x .25" wall sleeve bushings and the traction bar axle bracket. also have 8 pieces of 2"x7" plate (.5" thick) for fabrication of the shackle and mounting the crossmember to the chassis.. can anybody help me with pictures or dimensions of what they did with their traction bars? i need all the help i can get before i start welding all this stuff together:) THANKS GUYS!

heavy duty... if thats the word for it

"Ridiculous overkill that increases weight without additional benefit" might be better? ;)

I ended up with a M.O.R.E. traction bar from a guy here that was going to links. It was brand new & roughly 1/2 the MSRP. It's a great balance between too light & too "heavy duty"... tubing is substantial (likely .188 wall) and the plate is between 1/8" & 3/16"...

IMHO, unless you're planning to attack obstacles like it belongs to somebody else (high RPM/low IQ wheeling & ain't pullin' cable), you may be better served by tubing (stronger than solid rod) and something less than 1/2" plate?

hahaha. that sounds more like it! but yeah the stuff my dad got me isnt regular solid pipe. they were driveshafts used for the mining machinery. he was saying each of those shafts were around $600-2000 each when new and are rated for upto 1600HP on constant load. even my dad cant tell me exactly how they make them because its such a complcated procedure and its the highest quality of steel. but i agree it will be overkill and a little extra weight but so far it goes with everything ive built for it :driver:

here's one I got from a guy on here in a trade, but I don't know if I will wind up using it (or if it is even the right length). 1x1 square tube isn't my preference either, and the heims could be a bit beefier...

anyway here it is:

it is about 44" long
