Ok, so heres the deal i recently put a 4inch suspension lift on my 1987 jeep wrangler yj. just to find out that i need some kind of lengthended traction bar bracket or something. i was wandering if any one had a set that i could possibley buy. Im also in need of new u bolts for my jeep. if any one has any thing either pm me or just post here. Thanks!!

If you are talking about the panhard bars that go diagonal from the frame down to the axle, you will enjoy the ride and and offroad ability much more if you just don't put them on anyway. They make the suspension ride like crap and the jeep will not flex offroad.

Also known as a "track bar" to anyone other than Toyota guys. It's not short for "traction". Many people take them off.

Thankks! one more question will taking off the track bars make my jeep less safe to drive? thats the main thing seeing as i wont do tons of offroading just occassionaly with the guys.

It will not make it less safe.

Just a little disclaimer:

Taking the trac bars off of most vehicles is not safe. So don't tell other people to do it. I had to rebuild a TJ last year because a kid left his driveway and rolled into a ditch at 45mph because his buddy told him he could take the trac bars off his wrangler, It would flex better. The only vehicles you can do this with are ones with leaf springs.

:shaking: wow :shaking:

I've got mine off on my yj and only thing i notice is a little more play in the steering and steering wheel doesn't center back to the same spot after take a turn. I'd keep it on the front atleast for a DD rig. Chris.

As stated here^^. Keep in on a daily driver rig.

yea but you have leaf springs that keep the axle located under the vehicle. tj's or any other coil/coilover link suspension is a whole different animal. course that was already said in mars fab's statement.

Im going to chime in on this subject because I feel people have confused which specific suspension component we are focusing on.

The Title is Traction Bars so this is a traction bar for a YJ LEAF SPRUNG Jeep
Note: this may not be an exact example for a jeep but this is what most look like or the stretched out traction bars going from the belly of a jeep, truck, etc to the axle. This helps fight off axle wrap

Next I saw the term trac bar mentioned. It is basically impossible to drive a coil suspension jeep without one on each axle. This is kind of off topic since we are talking Leaf sprung but I will throw in a picture aswell

Last every jeep has sway bars. I always keep mine connected on the front because I dd my cherokee. Some chose to remove it but I will reap the benefits when I get in a hairy situation on the highway. It can be seen above but I will include a second picture

Some one correct me if any of this is wrong.
