Any one know a good lawyer in Burgaw to help with a speeding ticket ? Driving down i40 late Friday night I didn't pay attention to my speed and got stopped. Trooper was real nice and said I should have no trouble getting it reduced To not get anything on my insurance and he noted on it that road was empty and I had not been drinking but said he had to give me a ticket . So any one know someone who can help me Out there?

Hi, if you haven't had a ticket in awhile (3-5 years?) you should be able to get the ticket reduced to "faulty equipment" or something similar to that verbage. Lawyer and court cost will probably run in the $300 to $400 range but there will not be any points against your insurance. BTW your mail box will probably start filling up with junk mail from lawyers who want to "help".

Yeah i know i'll get some in the mail, but just wanted to see if anyone knew anyone in particular. my brother has had a few tickets and when you talk to some of the people who send you their info they basically just admit guilt for you and waste your money and i wanted to make sure to get someone who actually gives a damn. I'm only 22 but I've never had a ticket or any driving infraction in over the 6 years that I've been driving and am hoping to get it reduced to improper equipment or something.
Only thing that concerns me is if how fast i actually was going has an effect on how easy to get it reduced is. I think he wrote that he clocked me at 86 in a 70. I honestly had no idea i was going that fast because i was just cruising watching the road and talking with my girlfriend who was with me. (and i was driving her car too if that would even matter)

You may want to call the District Attorney's office. They may reduce it for you without even getting a lawyer. I'd think it would be worth a shot.

Honestly, in your case, (depending on how far away it is) go to court and talk to the DA. He/she is going to reduce it to 9 over on the spot. (They do this for everyone) You plead guilty to that, it puts one drivers license point on and NO insurance points. (There is a difference.) You pay $125 (or whatever court costs are now) and a $10 fine. Your insurance doesn't go up and you don't pay a lawyer $100 plus to do the same thing. The next ticket you get within 3 years you do the same thing only you use a prayer for judgement (No license or insurance points). Don't get another one within 3 years of that one or they it comes back and your insurance goes up. Basically you get 2 within 3 years without your insurance going up. I've been in court enough to see how this works. I'd watch a lawyer go up there, sift through all the pink copies, pick out 5-6 and go up to the DA and do them all at once. It'd take him 5 minutes and he'd pocket $5-600 just like that. It's not worth your money to pay a lawyer.

I understand what your saying, i just thought it was always better to not end up with any points on your license. And don't lawyers get it down to improper equipment which = no points?

Also, if I do what you say and get it knocked down to 9 over and 1 point, in the future if i get another ticket can i go back and try for improper equipment with a lawyer or won't it look worse with one already in my history?

I will also try calling that county DA just to see what they say about getting it knocked down too, at least before i get a lawyer

That makes sense. 86 is a lifted wrangler is a little white lie.

My jeep does 80 and that's about it.
And it wasn't in the jeep :driver: but I have been able to get there before in it lifted and on 33's, but it was before a regear to 4.56's. Now it doesn't want to go more than 80
I was in my GF's '06 civic.

My TJ ran 85mph down the interstate for hours on 36's and 6" lift and still got 13-14mpg. One day I was flying home and got a call from GONOVRIT wanting to know how fast I was going because I had just passed him in his car.

To add to this thread, you can usually lawyer out in the $150-200 range. I've had ample experience with this. A couple years ago, if you got it lowered to 9 over or less, most insurance companies would waive any insurance points if it were your first ticket in 3 years. On the second ticket, you could use your prayer for judgement, and in any counties that would allow, you can get them changed to a non-moving violation by taking the class (best option, no points on anything). If none of that works out, call a lawyer and you will end up with a prayer for judgement or a non-moving violation, or getting it dismissed by taking the class.

Re: lawyer solicitations. No Kidding.
My wife was rear ended at a stop light. Two days later we started getting flooded with lawyer junk mail.
We had no claim anyway since my wife wasn't hurt and the other guy admitted to his insurer that he was 100% at fault, besides, the guy hit my wife because he was looking at a cop car at the edge of the road, and not at the road. :D
