Another awesome ride at URE with the CTB. Fun time and no issues on the trail for me.
But then the ride home...2 miles north of the Outpost on 109, at 55 mph, the tie rod end on the passenger side separated from the wheel and I ended up in the other lane headed straight for another vehicle coming my way! I hit the brakes and started turning the wheel and got it to come back across the road and into the ditch. All this happened with my wife and daughter in the truck following me, seeing everything as it happened.
When I got out to see what happened, I see the tie rod end hanging in the air. Somehow the cotter pin and nut came off. Not sure if I hit a rock on the trail that caused it or not.
From now on, I will always inspect the steering prior to getting back on the road after a trail ride.
I always pray before I ride that the Good Lord will protect me and get me back home safely. Yesterday he did both, just with a little added excitement.
