What is everyone doing about this?

What happens if:

Your passenger gets hurt and needs to go to the ER or doctor?

Your rig rolls down a hill and mangles someone's $100K rock bouncer?

Or it burns to the ground while you are filling up the blinker fluid or adjusting the shift linkage on your 231 doubler?

In all seriousness I know the scenarios are endless as are the policies. That being said what is the best way for the average joe to do your due dilagence and not loose the farm?

Umbrella for someone else....prayers for it not burning down.

There is a thread on pirate about this. Basically unless it's titled as a vehicle you're sol. Then you can potentially carry light use policies that are cheaper or stated value policies.

Geico and others claim to cover ATVs so don't know why they couldn't do ours the same

I go through Farm Bureau and was in there paying my bill. I heard the woman at the front desk talking to a guy about his policies on his boat, boat trailer, boat motor, backhoe, trailer, and truck.

Basically what she told me was they will insure it if you want a policy on it. Now, how good the coverage would be or what specifics it would have, I couldn't tell you.

There are insurance companies that will offer insurance on trail only or race rigs for theft or total loss. Problem is, the annual premium is typically 10% of the insured value.

I looked at this for my buggy. I thought it was expensive at the time. However, once it burned, the premium costs look like a drop in the bucket compared to what its going to cost to rebuild

I have Liberty Mutual, right now just basic coverage but the rep I and I had a long talk about this, said they would do a stated value policy for whatever I said it was worth... just pay proportionally.

Technically your homeowners or renters insurance wil lcover you for general liability issues like you describe, although w/ most basic/standard policies the coverage amount can be shockingly low.
